The slingshot will work. A lot of people will also say the Misfit or the Tropical line from Storm.
I was looking to get gf a ball for christmas. Shes a straight bowling but the last couple games she has been interested in and has found a small likeness for a small hook in her throws. I was thinking slingshot as thats good for pretty much anyone entry level but i wanted to see what you guys think?

Slingshot is the least hooking of all balls. I have 1 for dry/light oil and it's a great ball!

I have been looking to get my wife a new ball. And I am thinking the Slingshot. Right now she throws an old ebonite urethane ball that hardly hooks. Her shot is more of just an angle shot over the 2nd arrow (left handed). She does well with it (130 average with no consistent weekly bowling) but with just a little turn into the pocket on the shot and I think she would be killing it. She also wanted something lighter, but still need to find out what her current ball weighs.
As long as it fits her and you don't get her something overly aggressive she will be fine. Just the fact she has a willingness to throw a hook is half the battle. My sister in law just battles with throwing the ball straight!

thats basically how she was. She can do very well at times throwing a straight ball but its just so inconsistent for her. She asked to show her how to hook it just a little bit and she likes it a lot.

Slingshot. I don't know why so many people say Misfit. That's not an entry level ball. Just because it was the lowest rated hook of any DV8 until the spare ball was released hardly made it entry level, especially with a perfect scale rating of 182.20! It's a medium oil ball people!

I feel the same way after so many people complementing the misfit for its power off the break. The slingshot is till a solid ball but the misfit is anything but a entry level "weak" ball. Btw Bill i saw your tip to reduce revs by putting index finger next to middle finger, should i tell her to do that? Its seriously just a slight hook? I wanna say her speed is low to medium. ALso would a conventional drill be good for a straight ball and hook ball? She said she wants to practice more on hook but who knows what shell decide on

It would be easier to throw straight with finger tips than to hook with conventional.
I wouldn't worry about changing her revs for awhile unless she wants to shoot straight at a spare. Let her learn at whatever pace she is comfortable with. If you throw too much at her, she will get overwhelmed, frustrated and quit.
Youtube videos of Shannon O'Keefe, Stephanie Nation and of course, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard should help her visualize where she wants to go, form wise. There are other great women bowlers but the form of those three is just amazing.

very good point. Sometimes i forget that bowling is a lot like weightlifting in terms of progressing slowly otherwise they just get overwhelmed.

I learned pretty quick it all depends on who you are dealing with. I know with my wife, I can't push when it comes to tips, throw out a tip maybe every time we go but I can't force it on her. I know she wants a new ball and I am thinking of just taking her to the pro shop one day and saying to the driller, "here have fun I will pay for whatever she picks". I will then proceed to put on my bowling shoes and go roll a few games while she gets a new ball. It will be much more time efficient to do it that way!![]()
Remember most woman also have the "ugly ball vs. pretty ball" factor!
