Hi. I just want to know how often you resurface or change your balls' surface? That question came into my mind because I played a tournament this weekend and the pattern had a lot mor oil that what I am used to. I usually throw the Wild Card (oob finish 2000 sanded) with fresh oil condition, but I had to slow down a lot to get the usual hook I have. That ball has been drilled in 2010 and I had never touch the coverstock. I get it cleaned regularly at the pro shop but never had the coverstock modified.
The idea now is that I will play a tournament next sunday and I don't know the oil pattern that is going to be used but I know it will be 40 ft minimum. I would like to get my Wild Card sanded down to 1000 to get earlier hook.
Thanks for the advices!

Resurface after about 100+ games! I change surface depending on the lane condition i'm going to be bowling on. I would suggest bringing a heavy oil ball if you have 1 and take the surface to 1000 and bring a medium-medium heavy oil ball if you have 1 and take the surface to 2000 for when the lanes break down. Also try the Rule of 31(40'-31'=9 board is your break point).
Good luck in your tournament!

It's all a personal preference. I keep all mine at OOB finish but then again, I have 13 balls to choose from at the moment. As for resurfacing for maintenance, around 60 games. I keep track of what ball was used each game so I'm usually close. When I notice a reaction change and check I'm usually +/- 5 games from that 60.

i resurface my balls once i get 60 games on them but i dont take 1 at a time i will throw one once it hits 60 games i will u8se another ball and throw the one that has 60 on it if i have to then once i got my 2 main balls at 60 games each i take them both into the proshop to get resurfaced.
but i always got another ball to throw when hes doing that.

When it no longer looks like new. If it doesn't shine, it's resurface time.
Sinister is the only way to live.
Testing with a device that measures the Ra value of a balls surface has shown a substantial change in the Ra value (surface texture) over 3 games. Many manufacturers are suggesting touch ups after 20-30 games
Still love the game but had to quit because of my left leg amptation

Got the Wild Card sanded down to 1000 grit. Wow, looks like I got a new ball ahah. I'll let you know the pattern after the tournament tonight and what I did. First time in a PBA pattern tournament... just hope it won't be the US Open one ahah.

Heres a question: i just turned my Hammer No Mercy in to get resurfaced because the ball return put. Huge gash in the ball that goes completely around it in a perfect circle. The gash is deep enough hat im confident the ball will not be able to be fixed, im just hoping to get it slightly better and usable.
Now, its n old ball, im not too upset, but should I be? Does the house need to take any responsibility here? I was quoted $35. I guess its too late now ince i left it there to be done, but should i argue its their fault?

I would have shown it to the manager immediately. Not only are they responsible, how will they know there is an issue if nobody tells them?
Some alleys actually own the pro shop and pay the shop manager. Other lease the space. Either way, it doesn't cost them nearly as much to fix as it does the bowler.
