Default TOUCH AND FEEL ?? wHEN WHY??

When or where did the tradition of tapping hands, after every shot come from? I guess I can see a person saying NICE SHOT when it truly is a nice shot, but I have noticed in my short time bowling that it happens regardless of the shot! It’s like riding my motorcycle, I have been riding one since I was in my earl 20’s, always have had one! Why,,,, do all the other bikers Wave at other bikers??

Years ago, when I was in my early 20’s 30’s, you didn’t see that many bikers out on the road! Now every other vehicle you see on the road is a big bad biker, lol! It can wear you out just waving to all the guy’s/gal’s , not to mention cause a safety and health issue. People driving cars don’t stick their arms out the window and wave to all the other people in cars, although I have seen hand gestures given between drivers, sweet as some of them are!

In bowling it’s like a ritual,,, you do it,,, or,,,, or,,, You just do it!

I wonder when this started, and is there a way to stop it! Lol I can say without touch,,,, NICE SHOT,,,, or , That was a tough one,,,, or wow, you were way off your mark,,,,, that’s what a mouth is for. Touching is just too ,,,,, how do I say it……. Ga?….. Unnecessary and Routine in bowling! Men touching men after ever shot, women touching women,, (that’s ok in my book), but come on men!! Do we really need to be so touché touchy !!

NOW don’t get me wrong ,,,,, when a great series happens, or a remarkable shot like the 7 10 is picked up I see no problem with a slap of the hands, and verbal “GREAT SHOT”! But every shot!!

I was on a team that had a lady that never bowled before, (it was a good money league), and every time over and over it would be a low single pin, or gutter ball! It seemed so disingenuous giving her some hand after every shot. We had a good team, but were going nowhere with her on the team.

I couldn’t take it, and checked myself a Self Help Group for bowlers that need HELP!! I found myself trying to be somewhere else when she was bowling, I ,,,, I,,,, I just,,,,,, JUST couldn’t keep touching, and saying over and over,,,, Hang in there,,,,,, God HELP MY SOUL!!! I am still not normal!!

My team keeps it to great shots and marks. And with our format it is usually after 2 frames as you bowl 2 frames then sit down. Sometimes it gets annoying, and I try to never do it out of just doing it. I need a reason.

...What kind of touching are you guys doing? We just high five or fist bump. And I only do that on strikes or spares.

Slapping of hands is for marks. Fist bumping is for missed spares, though not required. I thought this was universal!?!

Me too, usually. There is an occaision, thoug, when a team-mate is struggling I would do it and give him a pep-talk.

    This.

Mike, i think you need to go back to that self help group LOL its just a high five, its not like your embracing each other after every shot LOL

look at it this way: if you get to a pba telecast you need not go near your opponent LOL

Among most hardcore bowlers it is. We have a team named fistbumps because we always did that when we didnt know any better. Makes it easier for the germophobes and the nervous sweaty hand folk. One universal acknowledgement, less skin contact.

I think, and this is just my opinion...it maybe for superstitious reasons. In basketball you see players touch the person shooting a free throw after each shot regardless if that person makes it or not, as to give a touch of luck on the next shot...a sort of passing good energy to the player. So I can see bowlers kinda doing the same thing, although I haven't witnessed this myself since I haven't been on a league yet, but I would do it and I'm not a germaphobe.

It really depends on the team and the players. I have one team there is a guy that always fistbumps. another team where one person never touches at all

I have also seen it used as a kindof casual 'tag' your up for teams that are there more for social interaction and fun.

Jeez, Mike acts like he's getting groped by men! Is someone grabbing your a$$ after each shot!? Tell me who and I'll tell them to stop! Maybe we can get you a rape whistle.

Seriously though, I don't mind high fives and fist bumps. That's what I've always done. However, I do find myself somewhat reluctant to do it on bad shots, or even more-so on UNDESERVING strikes lol.
