Approach stance placement

I am a right hander and I stand to the far left. I place my right foot on board 35 and throw out between the 3rd and 4th arrow with about 13 revs at between 9 to 10mph. Am I supposed to use my right foot or my left foot to line up my shot or does it matter? Just wondering about the technicalities.

Being a left handed bowler, I always use my left foot to set up on the approach. Being right handed, I imagine, is just the opposite. You should use your right foot. However, I say use whatever method you need to set up on the approach. As long as you can hit your mark and the pocket, it doesn't matter which foot you use to set up on the approach.

Most right handers line up using the inside edge of the left foot and that's how most things assume that's how you lined up.

So If your right foot is on 35 that means your standing on maybe about 40.

Now a observation IMO:

If your standing that far left, using no thumb you are not a tweener your more of a cranker.

And you have to have more than 13 rpm on ball.

Now you could have 13 revolutions, which would be around maybe 230 rpm.

As a righty, I always start left foot forward with just a slight bend in my knees. Then, since I do five steps, I take my first step with my left foot.

Also, I base the board I'm on with the tip of my foot. That's how I always choose which board I stand on. Really, it's more just about being consistent with whatever marks you want to use.

As long as you are consistent, using the same part of the same shoe as your reference you should be fine. Personally I prefer to use the inside edge of the shoe as I think its more accurate. The toes of my shoes are rather blunt and I'd need to paint a reference line on the toe to give me the same accuracy as the edge.

The only problems occur when you're getting or giving advice to some one who uses a different foot or point on the shoe as his or her reference.

Using the slide foot has the advantage of letting you calculate how many boards your feet drift very easily.

As already pointed out, people measur with the inside of their left foot to check for drift, consistency, and for me, it makes sure I have a uniform stance as well.

I am going to convert my spot placement and give that a try next time. You are right. If I end with the left then I should measure with the left.

I teach to line up with the left foot because it's your slide foot as well. It will give you a more accurate placement when you end up at the line, so if you move two boards left at the back of the approach theoretically you should end up two boards left at the foul line. Make sense ? Try it and see where you end up after making that move.
