I guess I can see a person saying NICE SHOT when it truly is a nice shot, but I have noticed in my short time bowling that it happens regardless of the shot! It’s like riding my motorcycle, I have been riding one since I was in my earl 20’s, always have had one! Why,,,, do all the other bikers Wave at other bikers??

Years ago, when I was in my early 20’s 30’s, you didn’t see that many bikers out on the road! Now every other vehicle you see on the road is a big bad biker, lol! It can wear you out just waving to all the guy’s/gal’s , not to mention cause a safety and health issue. People driving cars don’t stick their arms out the window and wave to all the other people in cars, although I have seen hand gestures given between drivers, sweet as some of them are!

In bowling it’s like a ritual,,, you do it,,, or,,,, or,,, You just do it!

I wonder when this started, and is there a way to stop it! Lol I can say without touch,,,, NICE SHOT,,,, or , That was a tough one,,,, or wow, you were way off your mark,,,,, that’s what a mouth is for. Touching is just too ,,,,, how do I say it……. Ga?….. Unnecessary and Routine in bowling! Men touching men after ever shot, women touching women,, (that’s ok in my book), but come on men!! Do we really need to be so touché touchy !!

NOW don’t get me wrong ,,,,, when a great series happens, or a remarkable shot like the 7 10 is picked up I see no problem with a slap of the hands, and verbal “GREAT SHOT”! But every shot!!

I was on a team that had a lady that never bowled before, (it was a good money league), and every time over and over it would be a low single pin, or gutter ball! It seemed so disingenuous giving her some hand after every shot. We had a good team, but were going nowhere with her on the team.

I couldn’t take it, and checked myself a Self Help Group for bowlers that need HELP!! I found myself trying to be somewhere else when she was bowling, I ,,,, I,,,, I just,,,,,, JUST couldn’t keep touching, and saying over and over,,,, Hang in there,,,,,, God HELP MY SOUL!!! I am still not normal!!
Why,,,, do all the other bikers Wave at other bikers?? Because bikers used to be a small fraternity. Back when you were younger, if you saw another biker you knew they were a kindred spirit and waved.

When my wife's grandparents moved to Maryland in the early 60s they soon found out that the locals waved at every passing car. Turned out to be a very rural area for the east coast. Everyone knew everyone else, so you almost had to wave to avoid offending one or more of your neighbors.

I wonder when this started, and is there a way to stop it! I don't know when it started. There was certainly some of it going on when I started bowling in 1975. I don't know if there is a way to stop it. I don't really see why you should try.

The only time I've ever seen this behavior cause a problem was one night when a bowler was having a hard time getting his shot lined up. A spectator kept trying to give him a high five after he made his spares and was repeatedly ignored. Eventually the spectator got angry at being ignored and slapped the bowler on side of his non bowling arm. In a rare lapse of judgement I found my self stepping between an irate bowler waving a 16# ball and the spectator who was yelling "Come on, I know Kung Fu!" Obviously things were resolved peacefully since I'm able to write about it.

My own rule is high or low fives for good shots including almost made splits. If I feel that I missed the shot or if another player misses a shot I put out a closed fist.

When I get a sh!t strike, I haul a$$ back to my seat and won't high five, fist bump or nothing. I would be perfectly fine just bowling, no music, no body parts touching (lol) but that's anti-social.
We bowled a team once and their leadoff bowler ignored my attempts to slap hands. After her five bagger I just slapped her rear real hard. Of course that stuck up snob was my daughter.

    LOL'ed so hard.....

I'm kind of the same way, if i throw i a Brooklyn and walk back to my seat annoyed that i pulled the ball all the while teammates acting like i just threw the best shot ever. but that's ok, i'm the only one that really counts boards instead of doing approximately the same thing every shot.

well.. i don't mind with every shot as long as it's not an open frame. cheering demoralized the other groups that are competing against each others.. I've seen it here in Singapore during Leagues and Competitions.. well... it does scare me when I'm not bowling by the way they are shouting.. especially young people age of 18 - 25 are competing.. they are more enthusiastic about such stuffs >_>

Judging from the topic alone, it seems a little too risque for me.
I live by three simples rules:

    1. Don't ever ask about my business
    2. Never discuss business at the table
    3. Don't ever side with anyone against the family
