It's tough when it's burnt out. Not much you can do about that.
As far as hitting your mark, my best advice for that is to start your mark down until your ball goes beyond that point. It's helped me a lot. Also, today my coach had me stand at beginning of the lane and stare at my mark. Then he had me bend down at the knee and look at my mark. The lower I got, the closer the mark was to me. You also project the ball further down the lane when you get down lower.
