I've been a part of that before, the week you have a bye is the week where no one can come anywhere close to their average. Seems to happen more often than not
You know your team sucks when they loose to a BYE!

Bye weeks are always rough, the compete isn't all there like other weeks. My team had this on Monday and we got all the points but it was a lot closer than it should have been.

Bye Weeks are often difficult. One thing I try to do is keep pace by watching the teams to either side. Its okay to be a little bit ahead, but you don't want to be starting your third game before they are at least in the 2nd frame of their 2nd game. At that point, you're bowling much much faster than usual and that can have significant effects to your team game.
A good rule of thumb is no bowler on your team should up twice before 3 guys have bowled on the other (5 man) team.
This is generally a comfortable pace, you can always slow it down further, but I don't recommend speeding up.

I think we have all been there and done that.
Losing the bye week cost my team first place in my Saturday league last season. They use team totals in that league. Derrick and I both bowled way over average but not nearly enough as the females combined to miss average by 120 pins each game.
