also from bowling chat: You can add 50 rpm for every 1 mph (18,5 mph would be matched with 325 rpm)
I have read alot of things that reference a bowler as speed dominant or Rev Dominant.
How do you determine which a person is.
some are easy... example my wife 19.5 mph with unter 200 revs.
or some coast to coasters I have seen throwing 400 revs 12 mph.
but what about someone throwing 300 revs at 15 mph?
is there some kind of formula or rule of thumb for this or is like the difference between a tweener and power stroker where it depends on who you talk to.

Revs & speed should match. Most of the time, you can determine a rev dominant or speed dominant bowler by looks, which I do. I'm sure we've all seen those bowlers with slow speeds. Then include allot of revs, results an big hooking slow ball. Then there's the opposite, where you have a bowler with fast speed, whose ball rotation you can probably count by watching it in action, instead of watching it in a slow motion video.
For me to match my revs, I would have to throw around 14-15 mph. I can, but eventually, I start throwing it around 15-16. My ball still hooks, but not as much as it should to hit the optimum entry angle. Fortunately with the speed, the the ball hits hard enough to carry. I'm working on staying behind the ball, so I can try to match my revs with my speed.

Here's a post I made in another thread:
---------------------------------------------------
This is the only chart I've ran across showing Speed vs Revs.
I don't know just how or what they based it on. Also the part that says "*The goal is..." I don't know the context that was meant to be in, I'm assuming this chart was part of another article and is referring to something in it.
(A caveat: These speeds and revs are not the same ones, that the USBC statistical studies show generate the highest percentage of strikes at the pins.)
Now Mo Pinel said this in thread about speed vs revs.
Now 275rpm/17mph does fit into chart, also the cats data that says pros/elite bowlers are doing 363-373+rpms/18-19mph seems to fit in there also.It is somewhat ambiguous because rotation and tilt affect the match. My basis is 275 rpms matches 17 mph at release. I go from there. There is some intuition involved.
So assuming the pros are matching up really well, I would say it lends credence to the chart being pretty close at least. So for what speeds match which revs, this would be at least a starting point.
But you'd have to remember ball type, surface, tilt etc. would be variables in what would be the best speed/rev matchup for that particular ball.
Right handed Stroker, high track ,about 13 degree axis tilt. PAP is located 5 9/16” over 1 3/4” up.Speed ave. about 14 mph at the pins. Medium rev’s.High Game 300, High series 798

The only real purpose of have speed and revs match is predictable ball reaction on multiple lane conditions. On a THS we have all seen successful bowlers who were at both extremes. Although being matched would be great it's not the end all. Accuracy is still more important.

Hmmm I would need to pick up my speed another 1-1.5mph to match. Assuming I could keep revs the same. Doesn't sound like a lot but I know it is. I cant pick up speed too much due to my slide. I have to stay slow or I would keep sliding. No combination of heel has been tried that works.
just take a half a step back and your ball speed will go up
