I hand sanded the Brawlers with 1500 and 4000, which gave me a much better look on these lanes than I had before. I still haven't fully learned the breakdown at this particular house, and thus didn't make quite the right moves. Still ended up with a decent series.


Wednesday Mix Masters (Planet Bowl, Midwest City) - 03/13/2013

I had both balls drilled immediately before league. The Nexxxus was a magical striking machine for the first game and a half, but just stopped going through the pins the right way. After sever messy splits, I began testing with the MOtion Hole ball and finally found a wonderful line and ended with a relatively good series.

I didn't have a great look this day. Tried the Nexxxus, but it was wet/dry until the end of the 3rd game where I ended up getting 2 turkeys with an open between them in the 9th (played the "WRWJ" straight up the right). Had more success in the first game with a pin up Lethal Revolver. Averaged 192, so not terrible, but I would gladly take that second game back.

Ew. I was throwing bad. I had bad carry when I did hit the pocket. I now know these balls are not optimal on this pattern (for me).

Tried playing in the track area during practice, but it just wasn't reading consistently. In the first game, I moved straighter, appx straight up 10. Worked out wonderfully. I was able to follow the ball progression above to much success. The second game started with 5 in a row, but a stone 5 pin marked the beginning of my issues on the right lane. Still ended the night with my highest series of this season.

I really need to play straight to begin with... I started the series with a disappointing 142, leaving more splits and open frames than I should have. In the second game, I moved much straighter and improved. Third game I moved even straighter and was carrying almost everything.

For a 9 pin no-tap tournament, I didn't leave many single pins until the third game. First game was clean. Second game included two non-split open frames... Oops. Third game started with an open, had 2 spares, and the rest were strikes. I started with the Lethal, fiddled around the second game, and went back to the lethal and ended the third game with an awesome run. In the end, I missed cashing by ONLY 8 PINS... Bwah. There's always next time and one missed spare I could have picked up.

Started during practice right of 1st arrow with the REAX and burned up a nice spot. Shifted in a bit first game with the 3.5 but had bad pin carry. Switched to the Lethal on both lanes and started getting into the groove. By the 3rd game, I was arcing the Lethal on the right lane and swinging the Brawler on the left lane. #satisfied

This set of balls seems to be an awesome progression. I tried hooking the lane for the first few shots, but decided to move way right and play up about 8. It payed off. Granted, we were playing the BYE with one of our four in blind, so I was able to stay up and in the groove. With one week to go, I'm afraid of what my average is going to be lol...

Ended the league with a bang! Season ending 198(.9) over 33 games (as I started late in the league). Used the Lethals most of the series and was just chopping wood. A few errant shots hurt me a bit, but I'm still very satisfied.

So yeah, our average going into the tournament was from the league we were representing. I never could figure out the house lane conditions back then, and thus had a terrible average. Tonight, I went in with the Yeti, and it read the pattern well... Too well. It ended up breaking too hard, so I went to the low RG, low differential Twisted Fury and I had a strike fest! The only shots that cost me were misses to the right. Having never thrown the Twisted Fury Pearl before tonight, I was extremely satisfied. (That is the same Twisted Fury Pearl that I bought off forum user Derrick1183. Thank you Derrick!)

I was asked the night before to substitute for a player who was injured. I didn't have the equipment with me that worked best last weekend, so I used what I had from the 9 pin no tap tournament. It wasn't the best matchup, but I made it work. I was fairly consistent and did my part, but a lot of us missed easy spares or got unfortunate splits (like a few 4-9 splits...)

Sanded the Wild Card by hand to 500 right before league. It has a fairly aggressive layout on it and I wanted to burn up friction to the right. First game, it was just tearing off the spot, but near the end, I really wanted to use the Twisted Fury. Second game, I started moving in, but it wasn't working, so I moved out next to the gutter and stayed there all night. Besides the two 4-9 splits and the two misses to the right, this was an awesome move and worked very well.

This is a new summer league in which I will be participating. It is a 9 pin no tap league. The average will not reflect my true ability.
I could have taken more time to prep my shots, but I was distracted by severe weather. It was snowing hail dangit! I noticed pieces of paint dug out of my truck's hood. Anyway, the Swarms were hooking too much in the backend, and the Wild Card was hooking too much in the midlane. I needed something in between. Last game I left 3 really silly opens, including two missed spares and a gutter as the fill shot in the 10th. Handicap is 90% of 210. Guess what my handicap will be? What gets me is that everyone else on our pair will have a handicap.

First two games were fine. I made the proper moves when I noticed the lanes change. The third game, I lost the left lane completely. I couldn't hit the pocket and missed my spares (shamefully). I was striking just fine on the right lane... Whatever. It was the final night, and we weren't moving down any, so it wasn't a big hit.

I think they are using less oil as the league goes on. I started playing straight up 10 during practice. By the first game, I was hooking the middle of the lane. By the end, I was hooking plastic with ease. Just wanted to stay near the pocket.

Talk about a sort of "come from behind" finish! First game was rough when I hit some transition in the middle of the game and had a "4 through the middle" split (3-4-6-7-9-10). 2nd game was on a run of 9 in a row and pulled the first shot in the tenth for a 4-6-7. Third game, I got out my Yeti and it did so much work. All but 4 shots were natural strikes. I placed 2nd and got a free ball (Karma Urethane)!

New pattern. 33 feet. I always hated the shorter patterns, but this one I loved. Everyone was saying it wasn't playing like the actual Sydney, but it was playing like a sport shot. I was playing in, rolling the ball over 15-20 at the arrows and trying to get it out to 5-8 and the ball was screaming back into the pocket!
