Crazy Tx weather is working against you. Hahahahaha. My buddies wife just started her garden, but now there are thoughts we will be back in the 30s in a little over a week.
Pruned my yellow knockout rose bushes end of february and got 11 startings from them and yesterday got those planted in the flowerbed
hope they make it.

I've been reluctant this March. Roses gave this town its name here in Roslyn, PA. But ever since my parents removed the rose bush when I was kid, we haven't grown much of anything. Over the past year I've moved our woodpile and with the area that the wood was stacked I have created a compost pile lasagna style. Layers of each browns/carbons and greens/nitrogens upon one another. Long story short.. what is now a rich a fertile bed for plants, which at this point I just rake over and turn once a week, is waiting patiently to become a vegetable and herb garden.
The weather, however, isn't ready to cooperate just ye. I don't want to wait too terribly long to plant seeds. Now that we've changed the clocks, the days will start to get longer and now is generally about the time I'd start to place plants and seeds. Mother Nature is still deciding when that transition will occur. I'll wait; the herbs I have can stay indoors, though I do plan to plant some outdoors, when the time is right.
When it comes to roses, I have no experience other than helping my parents clip the old rose bush when I was kid. They had it dug out about 12 years ago but I would love to return a portion of our property to be a rose garden, even if it only started as a bush.
Best of Luck to you and your roses! (: .)
