So just because it's "League Bowling" it's not to be taken seriously?

So when should you take it seriously? only at tournaments? in the PBA? Where do you draw the line?

League is organized competition, while you should have fun at. The point of it is to try and win.

In other team sports, all players warm up, they set line ups of who will do the best . Why shouldn't bowling be the same.

In this instance here he's taking about a championship game. One of the most serious nights in the season.

Remember not all leagues are "drink beer, eat pizza and bowl when you feel like it" leagues. Some leagues/bowlers like to think of bowling as a real sport and want to treat it like one.

You think this is serious, there was a time when league teams had tryouts to see if you were good enough to bowl with them.

at the end of the year with league bowling what do you get? are you making hundreds of thousands of dollars to bowl league? if you win your league do you get to go to some nation league bowlers tournament to bowl for a chance for a million dollars? no. NONE of that. anybody that takes league that serious, to me, is just trying to be in a dick measuring contest. I mean, unless you think bragging rights are prestigious?

The difference between first and second for us is $50 each. That is enough for me to try a little harder.
Just imagine how I was with a quck $500 tournament or the $2,500 tournament.

It sounds like you have more issues with your leagues than bowling in general. Just because you don't make a lot of money, or get famous does not mean it’s not a sport. It's a sport if you treat it like one and act accordingly. I play soft ball on a team, to me that's a sport. I do not get paid for it, I do not get sponsors or anything. It's all about perception

Don't want to sound like a dick but just because you don't want to treat it like a sport, doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't. Kind of coming across like it’s our fault we want to try and like our accomplishments. Go play Hello-kitty if you don't like players taking their game serious.

From other posts, seems like you have a few players that have lower scores, but still like to brag. From everything I have read, kind of just sounds like the name of the game for handicap leagues. Though a different league might suit you more.

At my house, they are trying to get enough for a summer sports league. First place will be around 1200 for the team. Doubt I will be able to make the nights for it, but would be sweet to cash out in.

Maybe the issue is perception of the definition. What exactly do you mean by "taking league too seriously"? I know it sounds self-explainatory but is really subjective. Do you bowl and try your best? To me, that's serious. Are you talking about the self-absorbed bowlers who won't even talk to teammates during competition? The jerks who throw things, yell obscenities, etc. when they roll a bad shot?

I apologize for not being more clear. you are correct, I just assumed people knew what I meant. but the part in bold in your post is what I was referring to. thank you!

Just so the reason for my original post doesn't get lost:
I made it extremely clear what the issue was. My team captain had me scheduled to bowl but there was a possible issue with my back. It therefore made sense for other team members to warm up as well in case my back was still an issue. This made sense to me as long as there is no USBC rule against it. Since there was not, six of us started taking warmups, but after the first two balls I knew my back was OK.

I actually have no idea how the money breaks down. I think it is strictly by the total number of points won in the season. I don't think there is necessarily any financial benefit to being league champions, but I could be wrong.
