    Angry Frustrating...

while out Friday night league is over (FINALLY) I look back on it and am rather frustrated with it. it is a handicap league and I know its "only league" but I just don't understand how a team with the 3rd highest avg in the league (that's us) finishes next to last in a 17 team league. it just frustrates the crap out of me. there was one night, in particular that 3 of us shot over 700 with the other two high 5 and mid 6 can lose all 4 games. I suppose it comes with the territory of bowling in a handicap league but its just a little frustrating.

actually, I don't know if its more frustrating or comical, at this point? lol

The whole point of the handicap system is so high and low average bowlers can compete, just because you have a higher average means nothing in a handicap league, if the other team bowls higher over their average, they win. personally if i loose to a 115 average bowler because they shoot a 500 series, that doesn't annoy me, i'm happy for them.

all that being said, sandbagging is an issue, and teams are winning every week because they are 180 average bowlers with a book average of 140, then yea... thats a different story.

if you can shoot 700's why not join a scratch league, at least if you get your *** handed to you there it will be by a higher average bowler lol

i understand the point of handicap league. i was just stating that it is frustrating to be a "better bowler" and not win. the problem in my house is that the only scratch league we have is dying. everyone is quitting for handicap leagues. im sure this is the same in every house, but if people bowled in my house they might have a better understanding? i think it is mostly frustrating to me because those teams with the high handicap actually think they are good bowlers. strut around and talk smack because of their standings in league.

I have found that coming back to bowling after a 12yr hiatus, handicap leaguse are a joke! 90% of 220 is a joke really,I understand that begining bowlers need some help being competitive, but, giving a 205 bowler 10+pins of handicap is bull****. On top of that having a team of 4 bowlers with 400+pins handicap is also crap, cause they make leagues unbalanced and IMOP are almost as bad as sandbaggers. I just wish leauges would go back to 80% of 210 as it was more competivie 12yrs ago!

Oh well,I guess I will learn to live with it as I love bowling to much to quit!

My league is 80% of 200 and it seems to be working well. The top 5 spots or so are a good mix of teams with high, medium and low averages. But yeah if it was 90% of 220 or something like that, it would be weird. I guess the next time the league starts, bring up a suggestion at the league meeting to change the handicap to 80% of 200, or maybe 80% of 210. Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

Are you really saying 80% of 210 is more competitive than 90% of 220?

How many people 12 years ago had averages over 210 in your league?

If you have any bowlers with averages over 210, and you go back the the 210 basis for the handicap, you're giving those bowlers an unfair advantage.

We bowled for the championship Monday in my handicap men's league. Our five team handicap is 180. The other team's is 165. They talk trash EVERY week but not now. We beat them SCRATCH by over 300 pins and won every game. We won 25 of 30 points. We won the first game by 117 pins and poured it on from there. The third game was close but it didn't matter as we had won enough of the one on one points. It was fun and gratifying to finally finish better than second place.

in my league, we don't get individual points. there are a total of 4 points to be won. each game and series. we've literally have to give teams anywhere from 100-300 pins.

My Saturday night mixed doubles league is set up that way. Really sucks when you roll a 289 and still don't win. Especially so when the females don't even warm up, never practice and wonder why they don't hit their average or miss it by 50+ pins! I guess that's why it's a social league lol

Yes J Anderson I am saying it's fair! Why does a 210+ bowler need handicap when 2-3 bowlers out of 20 are scoring 220+? Why does a 95 avg bowler need 130+ pins handicap? Some of the high avg bowlers try to help the low avg bowlers, but, get told we dont want your help and then you watch them roll off 2-3 strikes in a row, game over. I have brought this up and all I hear is several players(1 of them a known sandbagger cause he admits it)crying they want handicap(so they can use it to win side pots). I'm old school and I think bowling was more competitive back in the late 80's til I left in 2000.
