    Default First Summer League

Over the weekend, I finally signed up for a summer league. It is a mixed league (2M/2F) with a handi-cap of 90% of 200. This will be my first league I have ever done, so I am hoping that I will be able to have a lot of fun but learn all the special rules and edicate.

When I bowl during open bowling at my house, I average about 175. I did a 6 game series the other night and had a 182 average. How will this work out on my handi-cap. I am probably over-thinking it, but how does the 90% of 200 work? My handicap would be my average + extra pins to reach 180?

Any good advice for first time league? Things to do or not to do? Ways to prepare or things to look out for?

The league is at Expo Bowling in Indianapolis, Sundays at 6PM starting 12 May. If anyone here is planning on doing the league, I am signing up as an indiviual (No friends to bowl with ) PM me if you need an extra male on the team.

As far as handicap goes, because you don't have a book average they should rate you over the first few weeks, then go from there. the main difference between open and league bowling is bowling on a pair of lanes vs a single lane, you alternate between lane 1 and 2 each frame for the game, just pay attention the the displays, and remember which lane you last shot on, your next turn will be on the other.

Edicate: only one person on the lane at a time, if you see a person to your right or left on the approach, wait until they are done before you begin. foul line: go over and you that shot so don't do it

other than that, just don't keep people waiting for you because it's your turn and your off talking to someone.

the Handicap equation goes as follows: 90% of 200: they take the difference between your average and 200, your handicap is 90% of that number, Example: 150 Average; 200-150 * 0.9 = 45 handicap
    High Game: 246 (300 soon)
    High Series: 627

I believe that young Lockwood meant to type;"go over and you get a zero for that shot"

    Everything else was spot on.

Your handicap and average will fluctuate accordingly as the season progresses. You are over-thinking things but that's normal for a first time league. Just relax and have fun.

Thanks for the info!! and yeah, The main thing I want to do is just have fun and meet other bowlers. I will keep a forum update with progress of my first league experience.
So far I have to attribute my bowling decently to this forum. I started bowling around January, averaging around 100-120. Now I am around 175 on my THS. I anticipate that dropping a little bit as I learn the league but as long as I pay attention and keep progressing, I should be good. Thanks all for the great input to myself and others.

People generally bowl better in open play than in league, so, yes, your scores probably will go down slightly. I think it's mainly because you have less people throwing on the lanes and moving the oil and also because you can't get into a rhythm when you throw a shot and then have to wait five minutes before throwing the next.

Just hit your mark and move your feet in the direction of the miss.
