    Default First Sanctioned Vegas Sweepers

I am so happy I just got back from Vegas and placed 2nd in my Miller Funtime League Sweepers. I'm a 146 average and shot a 221, 192, 138. The pressure totally got to me on that third game it was great when other teammates were below I was hitting it and when me and my other teammate were low the 2 struggling popped out of nowhere and picked up the slack. It was so awesome almost won 1st but they had our averages off by 1 on the recount sheets so we didn't find out till the banquet. So we dropped from a 3006 total to a 2991.
It's also awesome I got my first trophy that doesn't say honorable mention, thanks for the participation, or good effort. lol
It's also awesome watching my teammate go from a houseball and rental shoes to a coventional grip, then buying his shoes, and finally switching to a fingertip grip about a month ago. His mom bowled amazing that night. Well that's enough of my excited ranting. lol
High game: 232/High series 587. Arsenal: Hammer Backlash, Tzone Catchphrase: Those pins just got smoked (followed by the double hand pistols) Catchphrase performed rate: 0%
Faceplants on alley: 2 Reason for signature: everyone here has really fancy ones.

CONGRATULATIONS on your accomplishment. That's an outstanding honor to come in second place in a tournament like that. Don't sweat that last game, you definitely made up for it in your first two. The nice thing about shooting that well, is that NOW you know you are capable of bowling that well, so now just go out and do exactly the same things you were doing in Vegas. It's mostly a mindset that we all need to have and with this huge accomplishment under your belt just bring it, every time you bowl. Great going !!

    Two questions:
    1) Did you recently get a new ball or resurface your ball? Reason for asking, I'm starting to convince myself that I only bowled great the last month or so because the ball was new. Now that it's not new anymore...my 170s and dreams of 210+ have become 140s.

    2) How do "sweepers" work? I've never heard of it before coming to California...probably because of the proximity to Vegas it's easy to incorporate it into a league. From what I understand...you bowl in a league for a season, then the last week everyone in the league goes to Vegas and bowls in a tournament? Is it just your league in the tournament? Or is it multiple leagues all doing there sweeps together? Is it just team bowling or do they do singles and doubles as well? Whats a sweeps in Vegas cost...or does the league dues cover everything?

    And congrats!!

Funny to mention that! It seems like all new balls I have had are SUPER BALLS for about 25 to 50 games! I wipe mine off after every shot, and when I get home I put them on my spinner, and clean them with solution of simple green/and Russian Voka!! 50/60!! lol
No matter what I do, they seem to lose something! Example,,, the IQ pearl, 300 firt league sanctioned game. Only 3 games practice on it before that happened. Or the new meanstreet beatdown! My best was the first time out of the drillers office, 700 series. Don't get me wrong, I know the ball still has a lot of good games in it, and maybe a huge part of it has to do with me, not the ball! Another example the original DV8 Marrader! I bowled when it was new, and posted a picture of some of the scores on Me vs Jason!
Had 749, 700 725,,, WHEN IT WAS VERY NEW!!
Something about that just out of the box ball reaction!!! (

I know and have the equipment to resurface my balls, but it never the same!

100% agree Michael!! As usual!! People are going to start thinking I'm just your 2nd account or something....I'm not.

But yes....I'm in the same boat. Bought my first new ball about 3-4 weeks ago...immediately went from shooting games in the 120s to shooting games in the 170s. Fast forward 3 weeks...100s to 140s. WTH!!?? Bowling is going to be a bit too pricey for me if I have to buy a new ball every 30 games...especially when I'm practicing 2-3 times a week.

    Noticed it again tonight man...

BUT...for me...it still might not be the ball. I MUST extend my arm. If I don't extend my arm on my follow-through...it won't hardly hook. I have the bad tendency to snap my arm upward and bend my elbow rather than extend my arm straight. And I "think" that is cutting down my reaction on the back end. But...I think it's a little ball too. I mean, I've had to move right 2 boards and aim 1 board left of the second arrow (from the right) to hit the same pocket that 5 weeks ago with a new ball I was hitting on the same lane...2 boards left and aiming at that 2nd arrow (from the right).

At this rate, it'll be as straight as my urethane ball by the time leagues start the end of September. : (

If you are having to move right and go more direct to the pocket, perhaps the house is using a bit more oil than they were a month ago. I know our houses tend to use less oil in the summer (to save money) as there aren't as many leagues. So you might want to check with the alley and see if they are dressing the lanes the same way they were. If so, then I would say the ball just needs a deep cleaning. My pro shop guy says to clean every 100 games at a minimum. I have about 75 on my Roto Grip and I haven't really noticed anything yet, but I'm thinking of taking it in before I do - just sounds safer to me. Also, go way outside until you find the dry and see what reaction the ball has then. You may be able to tell if it has lost some of it's hooking.
