I'm in the IT field as well JP ... my work system used to be NT/FreeBSD/Solaris x86 box that I used for all my admin tasks. Hands down still one of my favorite challenges in my career to set up, get it work, etc. I used to dual boot linux and Windows at home. The progression to OS X for me was because I'm more of a command line monkey than anything. I used to script heavily in several languages for work and for pleasure. "I don't do windows" is the greatest excuse in the world because I always get the calls from friends (still) asking how to fix stuff.

You know, I've hidden the IE shortcut on their computer and given them a choice to go Chrome of Firefox. Somehow it always manages back up on their desktop.

And you are SO right, phone support IS torture. It is actually where I started my geeky gig... working as phone support at a local ISP in the mid-90s.

Hmm, maybe I should build a PC again just to see what I'm missing...

    Naaaaaah....

Apple's over priced hardware / proprietary software software is a combo id rather live without.
Same here. And I also haven't had an issue with malware/viruses for about 5-6 years. Seriously....it's not that hard to not open obvious spam/phishing mails, and not just click "ok" when a popup shows up without reading what it says first. And if you can't control yourself, just invest 70$ in a good anti-virus program like Kaspersky Pure or something like that.

As for Mac vs. PC, I usually compare it to driving. If you love cars and you love to drive, you probably prefer to drive a stick-shift and have more control over the car. But if you just want to get from point A to point B without any hassle, you'll probably opt for an automatic. Although nowadays with windows 7 the analogy doesn't fit quite as well as it used to .
