We have a backup bowler in my cash doubles league. His average is around 210 (I think). Bowled a 300 this week. The way he reacted, I thought it was his first. I asked his dad and he told me he has a bunch of 300s already (30-something of them). It's quite possible to bowl successfully with a backup. This guy is living proof of it.

Hoping I can go into leagues tomorrow night with the timing change I made tonight.

Worked on delaying my push-away to get better control at release tonight at a party we went to.

    First game: 83
    Second game: 170

Nothing like practicing in cosmic conditions

Because I just don't toss the ball down the lane anymore and hope it hits, I've found that oil conditions have a major impact on my starting point. Got a chance to throw a few games today...

I found out the house shot at the lanes I bowl at is a 40ft (I think the Pro said it's 36'5" with a taper out to 40'). I knew tonight was fresh oil, so I tried the whole down the 17/18 board - nope not gonna happen. Started moving two boards at a time to the left and ended up back up at my old friend the 35 board. When I was throwing when it "just felt right" I was watching the ball hit the end of the oil pattern, speed up and just roll beautifully into the 1-2 pocket.

I know buried inside somewhere there is a 200 game ..... I feel it

you're right the 200 is aching to get out ! Just wondering why you started so far inside the heavy oil to begin with. When you start that deep inside you're in the "Heaviest part of the oil" & that will make your ball slide more. I always recommend that you start off in the comfort zone you're used to, and then make your moves from there.

BTW official kick off date is tomorrow !! See you there ?

I'd imagine playing that straight up you'd lose a lot of pin action. Plus the ball would be fighting heavy oil for too long so it won't get a chance to really start it's hooking motion.

Ben, exactly what I was getting at. Any time you're that deep, your ball is going to slide many, many feet before starting to hook. By being in that far I'd guess she wasn't getting very many true rotations on the ball and I know she's not a cranker.

Because when I worked with my coach on Wed of last week, that ball was doing anything BUT what I wanted it to when throwing it down the left side of the lane. So we moved. and kept moving to the right until my sweet spot showed up (where I was most consistent) at least for that session, which was down the middle.

And ayup - see ya there
