    Default Drill pattern

    Thought I'd share.

Here is the drill pattern on the Fringe. Pin was moved to be beneath the middle finger to enhance the reverse hook. The yellow line indicates where my oil track is, became very visible after bowling on fresh oil last night.

Going to try and hold off drilling the new ball until I determine this is the way I want to go. Problem is, it's going to be sitting in the box calling my name. I understand, the Diva has quite an attitude.

I know it's hard, but be patient.

It's better to be sure and only have to drill the ball once instead of 2-3 times .

Donna, I agree with you and Paul. Wait and see if this drilling will give you the reaction you want then maybe have him give you a bit of a different pattern for the DIVA. It looks as though this pattern will give you an earlier roll to the ball. With the DIVA maybe you'd want a little bit later hook with the ball for when the lanes dry up. Check with your coach and see what he suggests also. From what I've seen with the DIVA....you'll like the reaction of the ball.

Coach thinks the same, and Pro has some ideas but we're holding off as well.

Working with my coach again tonight so going to work on the timing issue and also zeroing in on the whole backup ball thing. Luckily enough he bowls both left and right handed so he can at least convey how to play the left side of the lane clearly enough.

Donna, ask him about a "4 x 4 x 2" drilling for that ball and see what he says. It's a standard drilling for Storm/Rotogrip that I use on my Shatter. It goes very long (straighter) and then hooks sharp at the end. It creates whats called a skid/snap reaction. (Good enough to throw a 300 a month after getting the ball !) Curious to know what he thinks.

Actually it's the long straight and (while I wouldn't call it sharp) reverse hooking I actually got to tonight. A 163 came of that Hate to say it but right down the middle of the lane, aiming at the 17-18 board (between 3rd and 4th arrow on the right side). If it didn't hit the 1-2 pocket or the 1-3 (can we say B-R-O-O-K-L-Y-N) then I wasn't rolling over my mark. I could repeat this over and over and over again and was able to know immediately when it didn't go right where I wanted it to go.

Being that I found out one of the lady's seniors just took a tournament yesterday with a 298 bowling a reverse hook, there is a lot of support in house for not changing!!
I am glad of this as the little "niggle beast" rears it's ugly head once in awhile and insists that I'm doing it wrong. I just have to remind myself that unless I'm landing gutter balls constantly or planting the ball in the ceiling tile, there is no WRONG just room for improvement!

I'll have to ask about the drill pattern. May tinker with it at some point in the future. Pro had a 13# Columbia 300 Freeze Solid show up, so I may be able to get another ball to experiment with. He's re-drilled it numerous times for the lady who has had it but she isn't happy with it at all. Has a different ball-reaction than what the Fringe so it will be new territory for me!

    And grats on the 300

Donna, good shooting on the 163 !! I'm a little confused by what you said though. "Hate to say it but right down the middle of the lane, aiming at the 17-18 board (between 3rd and 4th arrow on the right side). If it didn't hit the 1-2 pocket or the 1-3 (can we say B-R-O-O-K-L-Y-N) then I wasn't rolling over my mark. I though you had said you were bowling from the 'left' side of the lane with your back-up ball (sorry -reverse hook ! LOL) IF you're shooting that deep inside, you're playing in the heaviest part of the oil on the lane, which of course, is going to make your ball slide further, lose roll, etc. Am I reading this correctly just having another Senior moment ?

Not a senior moment... and yes going through the heaviest part of the oil....Only difference... when I bowled Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it was in fresh oil. Last night wasn't on fresh oil. Is that an adjustment I have to watch for based on oil conditions?

Stand straddling the 20, aim at the 17-18, ball goes onto the left side of the lane and hooks right into the 1-2 pocket.

I was bowling from the left side of the lane previously (my 15-something from last week) but I couldn't repeat it to save my life last night.
