question about making a Frantic have less SNAP the last few feet

Ok this is my question; I am a LITTLE confused as to what to do.
180 vs 4000 grit , 180- your ball loses energy by grabbing the lane earlier and thus not as much hook at the end, after hitting the drier part of the last 30 feet?
4000 grit you ball saves energy so it has more snap at the end when it hits the dryer area.

I have a Storm pearl tour IQ, (my 300 baby), and it works fine for two games, then even after moving left and moving target left, it just gets to aggressive!
My Frantic is even more aggressive, even at that same point in my 3 game series!


If I want less kick at the end for the Frantic do I go 4000, or 180, question being, will it burn up more energy with the 180 and polish, or would it have less kick (radical hook last few feet), with the 4000 and polish.

The whole idea of grit, polish and end result seem to cross over to me?

They are both drilled the same, and we thought the Frantic would be less aggressive due to its Perfect Scale ratting. I want to take some of that radical snap out of the ball for when the lanes start getting burn up.

MICHAEL, 4000 and polish is going to make the Frantic store up all of its energy
and have the big snap on the dry. If you are looking for a lot less hook on the
back end then I'd try the 180 and polish or you could always just go with 360 or
500 and no polish as that would make it burn up some energy earlier.

The only thing about using to low of a grit is the ball may burn up early and then
just roll out and not hook at all by the time it hits the dry and if it does get to the
pocket it may not carry the corner pins.

You could always try getting it re polished if its been awhile since youve done so as my crossroad(same oob finish as frantic) will hook too much when i pull it out for game 3 if i need to polish it.

In regards to your question youll see more length out of 3000-4000 + polish. Idk if 2000 + polish would be enough of a step up from the frantics oob finish to make a difference

If there is polish on the ball take it back to 500 with water and bring it up to 2000 with out polish just water this will give it a sheen. We know this will help the ball roll a little early and more control in the backend.
If you have a pro shop they will do this for you it is worth the money.

thanks for all the advice, I have a spinner, and pads! know how to work the surface, so I will give it a try! Let you know next week how it works out,,, thanks ! And yes It does have a high polish finish, with a 500 girt at present time! The polish is Storm Reacta clean/polish, and I believe it brings the finish up to 1500 if I remember correctly.

From what you are describing, it sounds like your backends are really flying and after 2 games the lanes really open up. Remember that polished balls will always respond more dramatically to the friction. A sanded ball will blend the pattern more. Seems you have good oil in the heads after 2 games, thus when you move left, your still gonna get the length and the second that polished ball reads the friction, its gonna kick left. At that point you have some choices. Ball down to a solid symmetric and with a weak layout. or Move deeper and try and get the ball to push as deep as possible to the breakpoint. or Throw something with some surface and play closer to the track to get that blended motion(you have to play closer to the track to get the "burn" from the dry outside line). Or throw plastic.

your style and game will dictate which would be best. Basic trial and error, but once you figure it out, your golden.

The great and fun thing is, is that you get to bowl and try different things. A day of bowling good or bad is better than most things.

i would suggest getting something weaker. On most house shots your still gonna have oil in the heads and the middle, so your not gonna see enough friction up front to get the desired burn needed to blend the pattern, unless your outside by the track.

Higher grit with polish will give you a lot of length and snap on the backend.
Higher grit with no polish will still give you length and a not so snappy backend motion
Medium grit with polish will get you length and a strong motion
Medium grit with no polish will give you a smooth roll during all 3 phases of ball motion...aka - skid, hook, roll
Lower grit with polish will still get you some length because of the polish, but the lower grit underneath it will smooth the transition some
Lower grit with no polish will give you more overall hook in oil, with most being in the front and middle of the lane

Taking the polish off the Frantic will smooth the backend motion. Yes, it wont be snappy, but the trade off is that you will create more hook in the middle of the lane. For late in a set to try and create some burn, it may work. Wont know until you try.

I have my Frantic at 2000 and I find it rolls much better there. Gives it a little more energy, gets further down the lane, but is still snappy. I ended up doing the same thing with the IQ Pearl (Both balls are 1500 OOB).

If you want a ball to be more even arcing instead of skid/snap, the lower the number the more arc.

we both have the same balls, (Frantic/IQ pearl) weird lol,,, did you use polish on both balls after your did the 2000? I have the storm clean and polish, and it puts a marble like finish on my balls, nothing else seems to do the job as well.

maybe IQ I will keep at 1500, and polish, I always have a great start with it on house oil, Tuesday started with a 268, 220, and 212,,, then a 143!! I lost control of the huge snap due to oil changing. But a 143,,, Wow... 700 on first 3 games, then the bottom fell out, and I tried everything I knew to make adjustments!!!
