Thread: Resurfacing by hand

    Default Resurfacing by hand

Has anybody tried resurfacing his/her ball by hand? Just wanted to see what the general consensus was. If it is doable / worth it to do it by hand, or if taking it to the pro shop / getting a ball spinner is the only effective choice.

Ball spinners are a little pricey, and the pro shop I believe charges somewhere between 30-60 dollars to resurface

If youre a diy type of person, a ball spinner can be made at a pretty low cost pending you have access to or can buy a used 1/2-1hp electric motor

the total cost of mine was round $50

If you mean a real "resurface" yes if your careful you can do it. But you run the risk of getting the ball out of round over time.

You should use a C.A.B block

    or a thing like this

    to help maintain roundness.

Right handed Stroker, high track ,about 13 degree axis tilt. PAP is located 5 9/16” over 1 3/4” up.Speed ave. about 14 mph at the pins. Medium rev’s.High Game 300, High series 798

I'd save yourself a lot of time and energy and get a ball spinner.

I agree 1000 percent!! I have a ball spinner, and its one important piece of equipment that I will NOT BE WITHOUT! I use it with one of the products mentioned above, the Smart Pro! I would highly recommend it to use with the spinner. Its give an excellent distribution of pressure on the ball

Is the smart pro really that much better than the sanding blocks you can buy from innovative/vertex?.

I am not sure its BETTER, but it works GREAT with the abralon pads I use. I will take a look at the innovative/vertex "sanding blocks" and get back.
I am 1000 percent happy with my smart pro!!

I would say the innovative sanding block looks great also! But either way, much better then hand pressure on sand paper/abralonpas!

New and improved! Now with a softer feel.

Innovative Sanding Block. Contoured to the surface of the bowling ball. Velcro in the cavity works great with Abralon, Sia Air, and Daisy sand paper.

C.A.B's and the Smart Pro are basically the same thing, just a little different in style.

C.A.B's were the first to come out way back when. They used the flower shaped hook&loop papers, they also have two sides.

The large side is the one most used and holds the abralon pads and the optional polish application & buffing pads also.

The small side was used for sanding just around plug jobs/patches etc. and held small sanding disks, but just about nobody ever uses them anymore.

The newer smart Pro has a different form factor, which might give you a little better grip on it.

The big difference is in the Smart BMS which can be attached to a drill, for those who don't have a spinner.

If I was just starting out and didn't already have a spinner and some C.A.B's, I would get the Smart BMS or the Pro. It's not a bad little setup and is not that overly priced

Well, right now I just use this with my spinner:

Is there a major difference between the two?
