Welcome back. I thought you and Iceman may have eloped or dug an underground bunker together. Glad you're back on the lanes. Sounds like your were in a rough spot in life last you posted.

Out of curiosity, what kind of job do you end up finding? Are you still residing in Iowa? I only ask because you gave us so much information and details on your struggles that one couldn't help to be concerned. It's always good to hear about a happy ending-ish and hopefully there is a lady Aslan in your life (besides your daughter).

Hey all. Still alive.
Hopefully I can get things worked out...get back into league bowling 2 nights a week...and get back to "normal". I involved myself on the USBC Facebook page for a short time...but the administrator penalized me with a 48-hour ban because I referred to people who whine about USBC changes as "whiners"...so I just left the group. I mean, if THAT is gonna get me a 48-hour ban...I don't think I'm gonna last long given my track record of riling up the masses. ; )

I have decided I'm sticking around (Iowa)...even if the IRS doesn't give in. I'll make it work.

I called a center today about fall leagues. Right now, due to Plaza Lanes burning down...centers are packed with teams and there are waiting lists. Some are looking for teams, but not many scrounging for single bowlers. I left my name for two leagues at one center...the lady said she'd pass it on to the secretaries....maybe a team needs a single bowler. If not, I'll either have to wait and see...or try another center.

Got the call Friday afternoon that I've been picked up by a team for the Thursday league. Even though it's been since October 2013 since I touched a bowling ball...I am aiming for leagues with higher average bowlers. In this league, probably the best league in all of Iowa, out of about 125 bowlers...only about 10 bowlers had averages < 180 and it's a men's league. I think one of the bowlers that bowls in it is in the PBA50. So, no more mixed leagues where I'm bowling with 3 bowlers that average 99-125. I might actually be able to watch the other bowlers and their ball movements for a change. Still on a waiting list for the Friday league, which is probably the most popular league in the State/area. Alot of the same bowlers as the Thursday league...same center.

Figure I need to practice a bit before the league starts Thursday. Gonna try to do 4 games a day for 6 days and see if I can get back into my groove. It's hard to practice on decent conditions in the summer when I have a job and can't go to the center in the middle of the day. I thought I did pretty good in the first practice back (since October) given the lanes were trash and 3/4 of the games were during "glow bowling"...which almost caused me to fall down when they turned the lights off while I was on the approach.

Spare shooting was better than I thought it would be. Gonna take me some time to remember what my adjustments were for the various leaves. Strike rate was garbage...but I couldn't get any angle given how bad the lanes were. During the summer, most of these centers throw a ton of oil down in the morning and don't touch the lanes until the following morning. In between oiling, it's just 98% open bowlers throwing plastic balls and pushing that oil down lane. So, good luck trying to get your ball to break.

I think alot of my problem (physical game) was trying too hard. Rob used to always coach me on that. The harder I "try", the less revs and hook I'd ultimately get. So, I think that was a big problem. My speed didn't seem too bad...in the upper 14s at the pins. I just couldn't find the right line. When the lanes are blocked with oil like that...I even tried to bowl up the 4-board...no break.

Knee is sore as hell. Hopefully I don't over-do things here in the coming week. But I'm really worried that I'm gonna end up on a team with all 180-210 averages and I'm gonna cost them points. They'll probably use my last composite average of 188. So, ideally I'd like to be back capable of averaging that...at least in the first few weeks.
