    Monday Practice: low-medium oil synthetics

    594 Series: 193-205-196
Missed a 10-pin in the 3rd frame; otherwise clean through game 1. Missed a 6-7 split in the 4th and chopped a 3-6 in the 6th in game 2; but closed out with 5 strikes to salvage a score over 200. Game 3 I was clean through 9 then left a 1-2-8-10 washout in the 10th and chopped it.

    499 Series: 151-166-182
Game 1 I was struggling so after 8 frames I balled down to the Frantic and tried to play the middle. In game 2 I missed another single 10-pin in the 3rd frame and then AGAIN chopped a 3-6; this time in the 9th frame. Otherwise, spare shooting was pretty good. Game 3 I was able to strike more (5x) but chopped a 1-2-8 and left a couple splits that kept the score down.

    484 Series: 188-147-149
Game 1 I was clean through 8 frames before chopping a 4-5 split in the 9th. Then things started going downhill. Washouts and chops in game 2 and poor single-pin spare shooting in game 3.

    440 Series: 170-147-123
By this time I was exhausted. Still was missing single-pin spares, but not as bad in game 1. Then washouts and splits in game 2. And then game 3 was a combination of splits, washouts, chops, and poor single-pin spare shooting…just embarrassing.

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 8.43 pins
    Strikes: 29% (1 5-bagger, 2 turkeys, 4 doubles, and 19 singles)
    Spares: 60% picked up

    Single Pin spares: 60% (17/28)
    Most common single-pin leave: 10-pin (10x).
    Never left a single 1-pin nor 9-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 61% (36/59)
    Most common multi-pin spare leaves: 6-10, 1-2-8, and 3-6 (5x each).

    Splits: 0% (0/10)

    Average over 12 games: 168.08
Average had I picked up 100% of single pin spare leaves: 177.42.

    Overall a disappointing practice. Not just because of the scores, because who cares about scores in practice? But;

    1) I wanted to work on my release and posting…yet still can't manage to get revs without adding loft and losing accuracy. And with so little revs…I can't seem to move inside at all. Even just moving inside 6 boards and throwing over second arrow…playing what I'd call "the middle"…I'd either go through the center or washout.
    2) I tried playing with speed and loft to see if I could maintain accuracy while messing with my release a bit…but it was a mixed bag of results.
    3) Multi-pin spare shooting was better than I thought after looking at the numbers. But single-pin spare shooting was abysmal. And what was "weird" was, I made 70% of 10-pins…but struggled with single 7-pins and 4-pins…not my usual problem.

Fortunately (or unfortunately in terms of forced development), during league play over 3 games I rarely need to adjust too much and rarely ever need to "ball down"…so going to the Frantic is unlikely. And as you can see with the first series…playing the Rhythm over boards 8-10 worked fine up until the 8th frame of the 3rd game. And that was on drier than league conditions…so I should be back in my comfort zone for Thursday.

Also bummed that I haven't been able to get a 4-ball roller bag or 6-ball roller bag for a good deal on Ebay yet. I came close today. And I have my eye on a few more. But I really need to get a 4-ball roller. I plan to add 2 more balls to my arsenal later next month…and I plan to keep using the 3 I have on certain conditions. And even if I only used 3 balls…this carrying a ball and 2 more on my shoulder is for the birds. It's doing a number on my back and the bag is **** (poo) quality so the rings keep bending and it's starting to rip.

Oh well. VBT on Wednesday…hopefully that goes well. Then League play on Thursday.

Well sorry the scores were not for the better but the first series was pretty good. Over what time frame do you throw these games? I'm a big guy and Maybe a little older than you but I'm pretty sure if I bowled this many games straight I would be dead. Of course my center only has one functions air conditioner out of three so it's about 80 in there. I'm actually looking forward to going to Ashland for VBT. As long as your timing is good keep working with that release you will find something that works for you.

I think I got there after 3PM and left at about 5:45PM. So probably a little over 2 hours.

Generally the first 9 games don't bother me...and I'm usually even fine through about 11...but I have a bad sunburn and cuts on both my feet from going to the beach Sunday so last night I was kinda "done" after 9. I find that once I'm physically "done"...it's hard to score well and push through it.

Aslan do you always practice that fast? You should slow down and concentrate a little more and your scores would improve.

Kind of agree here that's almost as fast as we bowl three games at my two per team league of course I'm sure your center isn't 80 degrees but still slow it down a little. You may think your not tired but I'm wondering if you are.

    Post June VBT Scores

    Wednesday VBT Tour
    Fountain Bowl; Fountain Valley, CA
    low-medium oil synthetics

Bunny and I tried this last week but got there too late. So this was attempt #2.

    Practice: 187
    558 Series: 153 - 187 - 218

Practice started out strong with a turkey; seemed to be dialed in but I could tell I was right on the edge of maybe needing to move a board inside. Was clean through 5 frames before getting a 6-7-10 split then missing a single 4-pin. Washed out in the 9th and struck out in the 10th.

In game 1, I only had a few opens, one was a split. But I only struck once. Game 2 was better, but I opened in the 1st and 10th frames. Game 3 was very, very good. I did open in the 4th, missing a 1-2-10 washout; but other than that…3 spares and 7 strikes!!

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 8.84 pins
    Strikes: 38% (1 4-bagger, 3 doubles, and 2 singles)
    Spares: 68% picked up

    Single Pin spares: 81% (9/11)
Most common single pin leave: Single 10-pin (4x)
    Never left a single 1-pin, 3-pin, 4-pin, nor 8-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 50% (4/8)
    Most common multi-pin leaves: 6-10 (2x).

    Splits: 0% (0/1)

    Average over 3 games: 186.00
Average had I picked up 100% of single pin spare leaves: 192.00.

We had fun and weren't rushed. $2 games, such a deal!

Aslan's game has improved a lot. I can see that the lesson with Rob M. made a big difference.

And credit goes to Aslan too for putting in all those practice hours. It's definitely paid off!!

Your's has improved as well. Still not stringing along a ton of strikes, but much better spare shooting than last year. I used to hate when you pulled out that blue/white spare ball because it could go ANYWHERE...and then it seemed like once you missed...it would rattle ya...then another miss...then more rattled...etc... This time, even after a miss...dialed right back in. I didn't keep track of your spare shooting stats in my phone but I bet you were > 70% on spares, probably 85-90% on single pin spares.

The lesson with Rob was absolutely intrumental in my success. You'll notice that when I was kinda struggling...it was because I was getting AWAY FROM what he and I had developed. I started lofting, adding speed, adding hand, etc... rather than jsut roll the ball over my target...and thats when I was pulling it or pushing it. Once I stopped, settled myself down, and went back to the basics...trusting my mark...good things happened.

And also, Fountain Bowl really, really fits my game. I'd say 2nd only to my home center (Concourse) and just ahead of Arlington Lanes...it's the 2nd best place for me to bowl due to the dryness/low oil. When Bunny and I were teammates, that was an environment of heavy oil and I still, despite the lesson with Rob and 15-21 games of practice a week, struggle with that enviornment. Thats my next big challenge, how to adapt to heavy oil so I can be succesful in tournaments, in Vegas, and in Laughlin.

    Thursday League: low oil synthetics

    480 Series: 152-186 (clean)-142

Started out okay. A 4-9 split in the first frame, then a 3-9-10 split in the 6th. The only makable spare I missed was in the 10th when I missed a 1-2-4-10 washout. Only 1 strike though.

In game 2 I started out in SPECTACULAR fashion by picking up a 4-6 split! Only managed to strike twice, but put on quite a show going clean through 10 and winning the point for my team.

In game 3, everything fell apart. After being perfect on single-pin spares through 2 games, I missed the single 6-pin in the 2nd frame and then again in the 5th frame. I then chopped a 1-3-6-9 in the 6th, then missed 2 straight single 10-pins. Just a disaster. I finished strong in the 9th and 10th to salvage 3 points out of 4, but the game itself was lost and my goal of a 525+ series and no more series under 500 was not realized.

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 8.38 pins
    Strikes: 15% (all singles)
    Spares: 70% picked up

    Single Pin spares: 71% (10/14)
    Most common single-pin leave: 6-pin (5x).
    Never left a single 1, 2, 5, nor 8-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 69% (9/13)
    Most common multi-pin leave: 6-10 (3x).

    Splits: 33% (1/3)

    Average over 3 games: 160.00
Average had I picked up 100% of single pin spare leaves: 172.67.

The whole night I was struggling to stay right of the headpin. After game 1, I moved from the 7-board to the 8-board and eventually in game 3 was at the 9-board and finally the 10-board…but was still hooking way too much. It was even affecting my spare shooting as 3 of the 4 missed single-pin spares were to the left by inches as even the Slingshot was hooking a bit more than usual.

Looking at it negatively; my average fell 2 points, our team didn't take all 4 points, my strike rate was embarrassing, and I bowled a very disappointing 480 series.

Looking at it positively, I bowled another clean game, almost single-handedly won our team one of the 3 points, and I picked up a 4-6 split!!

Don't feel too bad about that your multi-pin splits were really good and you threw less splits than usual. which is kind of strange for a night your hooking more. Aslan were you adjusting in with your feet also or just changing your target down the lanes?
