Great job. We are in last but with 2 weeks left we are going to fight to get out of the basement. Oddly, there is 1 team that we have more scratch pins and more handicap pins and they are in 3rd (of 11 teams). We just bowled them the other night and won 2 of 3. Just shows that they bowl good when they need to. They are just recreational bowlers so I doubt they are sandbagging, just the way the pieces fell for them each week.

Turns out the difference between 1st place and 2nd place was < $150 in prize money and 4 USBC League Champion keychains. But, still. It's only the 2nd time I've finished 1st and the first time in a league this big.
Tuesday Men's League: THS
Week 31 - Money Night
633 Series: 217 (clean)-223-193
Game 1 I made my spares, but didn't make my first double until the 8th frame and had to strike out in the 10th to get over 210.
Game 2 I had switched to the Yeah Baby Sinful in Frame 3...where I also missed my first spare...a 9-pin. However, the Yeah Baby Sinful worked well and I ran 5 strikes together before making a bad shot in the 9th and then losing carry in the 10th.
Switched to the Force Pearl in Game 3, but left a stone 8 on the first shot. Missed the spare. Pulled the next shot terribly and opened a second time. Put together a few strikes before missing a 10-pin and then chopping a 5-9; then put together another few strikes and a spare to at least salvage a 193.
PinPal Stats:
First Ball Average: 9.32 pins

Single Pin spares: 66% (6/9)

Also left a single 4-pin, 7-pin, 8-pin, and 9-pin.
Multiple Pin spares: 60% (3/5)

Average over 3 games: 211.00.

"Money Night" is kinda stupid. Only two bowlers from my team bowled. One was bowling the first night of his summer league....and two others just didn't want to. Another bowled the first two games then skipped the 3rd game. Our opponents only had one bowler and a sub. We bet $10 a game and lost the first 2 games. Each person put $1 in for a card game...and I won the final card game. Since it was just me in the last game...we didn't do a game pot...so I ended up losing $10 on the night total with cards being a wash.
The competition was good, and we were playing on lanes I usually do well on...so my scores were pretty high.

549 Series: 196 (clean)-177-176
Lots of spares in Game 1, but not many strikes. Had trouble figuring out the right lane...which seemed to be playing a good 3:2 right of the left lane. Switched to the Yeah Baby Sinful in Frame 3...so it looked like a night where I might get a shot at seeing the Special Ops in Game 2 and/or Game 3.
More of the same in Game 2. I switched to the Special Ops in Frame 4 but it didn't help much. Missed a single 1-pin in the first frame and then split a 3/4 bucket in the 10th...so the score was abysmal.
Switched to the Force Pearl in the 3rd game and finally ran some strikes together...but only a couple doubles. Opened on a 9-pin in the 3rd frame, a 3-9-10 split in the 7th, and a 1-2-8-10 washout in the 9th...so the opens really put a damper on the score.

Looks like an 8-team league. I'm the only person on my team right now, so hopefully the center can find me some more players. Looks like a few players that can provide some competition...but I should be one of the better bowlers in the league.

Weekly Challenge Pattern League: Winding Road
First challenge pattern league since summer 2019. I won that league...but that was handicap and this is scratch...so I don't anticipate standing much of a chance this time around.

Only 3 opens in the first 2 games. But, also only 7 strikes in the first 2 games.
Game 3 the wheels came off. Three splits, 2 washouts, and a sum total of 4 marks.
The first night of this league consisted of me and 4 high school bowlers. Yeah. So...4 children and one old guy. We're supposed to get two other guys...but we'll see if they're old enough to buy tobacco products.

Week 1
575 Series: 214 (clean)-178-183
Thought I was on track to put together quite a game after starting out with a 4-bagger, but then lost my line and never really got it back. Kept things clean, but mostly terrible spares that I managed to convert.
Game 2 I finally had a couple opens...but then managed to put together six nice frames: X, X, X, 9 /, 9 /, X before leaving a 4-6-7-9 split in the 10th.
Game 3 started out with an open...a 2-4-10 split...but I kept things clean the rest of the way. Unfortunately, only 3 strikes over the remaining 9 frames.

Well....all that stuff I said about being one of the best bowlers in the league...forget all that. I got PUMMELED!! I think my opponent put up a 244-229-276 or something like that. I think he ended up with a 749 series.
It's nights like these I question whether I'm doing the right thing pushing myself with challenge pattern leagues and scratch leagues when I could be bowling in a couple "fun" leagues against people that can barely average 120. Who knows, maybe I meet a female bowler with low standards who finds me mildly amusing? Maybe I can impress them with my ability to mark several times a game?
Oh well.

Weekly Challenge Pattern League: Route 66, 45ft
Second week of challenge league. Another couple younger guys showed up...both 200ish average bowlers. The pattern is fairly long, but very low-volume (13mL?)...so I expected it to dry out pretty quick.
Two opens per game in Games 1 and 2. However, a lot more striking in Game 1. Game 3 was 4 opens...half due to spares and half due to bad spare shooting...including an open in the 10th.

I was the leader after Game 1, but dropped to 3rd after Game 2 and 4th after Game 3. There was a stepladder for the top 5. I didn't bowl "badly", but I couldn't convert a washout in the 5th, missed a 7-pin in the 7th, and then got stuck with a 2-4-10 split in the 9th. Just not enough striking to make up for 3 opens...not when the other guy is striking and keeping things clean.

No need for a game-by-game blow-by-blow. As the only player on my 3-person team, I face the other team's anchor each night. It's a scratch league. I could have beaten him Game 1...but I missed two corner pins and it cost me a clean game and cost me the game. You can't beat a better bowler when you make unforced errors.
This is my last week in the league. I am switching to the Tuesday Master's Trios league and dropping out of the weekly Challenge League. Not because I want to...per se...but my old teammate needed a bowler on Tuesday and I am the only person on a 3-person team on Wednesdays...so it just makes more sense. I'm gonna call today and see if there's another league at the Tuesday Challenge League center this summer...and maybe I'll do another league. Maybe I'll just do the one league...we'll see.
