Week 19

Team has been sitting at 10th for the last few weeks. Had a chance to maybe move up 2-3 spots...but no doing.

Started with the Fireball because the Black Widow Hybrid 2.0 was too strong in practice. Switched to the Endeavor in the 6th. Just...too much surface on the Fireball at 2000.

The Endeavor with a 4000/polish finish was able to stay right of the headpin...but it was tough. Woulda been a clean game if it weren't for a couple splits.

Held off switching to the Force Pearl...but after a decent shot that left a 2-4-5-7 in the 3rd...figured it was time to make the switch.

- Pulled too many shots.
- Still need to improve that single-pin spare shooting.

Lost 3 out of 4 points to the only team in the league that gets more handicap than we do.

Wednesday Night Established Men's League

Week 18

Came back from Christmas/New Year break tied for 1st place. Our opponents were a solid group...friendly guys, a couple of them are on our team captain's summer league team. Usually not a "big game" type of team...but a couple guys that are solid and don't miss spares.

Started with the Fireball. Thought I'd try to add some loft and some speed to see if I could keep it right of the headpin. Wasn't a terrible game until the 10th. But, I bowled over my average and the 3 of the other 4 guys were having a strong first game.

Thought I figured my single-pin spare shooting out...but apparently not. Switched to the Endeavor midway through. Still, 3 out of 4 of the other guys also had strong games.

Just...terrible. Some bad luck too...pocket 9, pocket 7. But way, way too many pulled shots. It was like I was trying too hard or something. The only highlight was picking up the 2-10 in the 8th. Fortunately, the other 4 bowlers finished strong and we ended up taking all 4 points.

Positives
- The team took 4 points and the former 1st place team went 1-3...so looks like there's a new champ!
- I think my adjustments actually helped me...not my usual "system"...but I just wanted to see what would happen if I moved back on the lane and added some loft...and it seemed to work like I thought it would.

Negatives
- Bad luck. Way too many pocket 7s for a righty.
- Messing with my starting position may have kinda worked...but it also messed with my timing (which is why I don't usually mess with it). Way too many pulled shots.
- Obviously...you need to mark in the 9th and 10th. Those 1st 2 games were better than the score indicated because I couldn't pick up a corner pin.
- Terrible, terrible 3rd game. I mean...a 139? All the confidence I got from a 296, 290, a couple 700+ series...all the way up to a 192 average...then SPLAT!

Well. I gotta figure a way out of this funk.

Sunday Night Established Mixed League

Week 20

Might as well change the team name to "Mediocrity" or "Tenth Best" or something like that. Been in 10th place for like, an entire month.

Started with the Black Widow Hybrid 2.0 (BWH2) and it somehow managed to stay right of the headpin. Bowling is a weird kinda game...you throw strikes in 9 out of 10 frames...you don't even get a score high enough to be a high score in next week's scoresheet.

Carry was starting to go. And, unfortunately, my spare game was in the toilet. Tried to use the Fireball starting in the 3rd frame...but by the 9th I just went with the Force Pearl (FP) the rest of the night.

Thought maybe I'd get some Grey ball magic from the FP, but no such luck. Just couldn't find the carry.

Wednesday Night Established Men's League

Week 19

Our team comes into the night solidly in first place. Bowling against the bye this week, so we were just bowling against ourselves. I think it helped not to have the other team breaking down the pattern. Was able to stay with the Hammer Black Widow 2.0 all night.

A couple misses right, a couple misses left...and a pocket-7-pin leave pretty much tells the tale of my awful start.

Lucked out with a couple Brooklyn strikes...but other than that...not terrible.

Last week I finished the night with a pathetic 139. Tonight, I end with my 3rd highest game.

- The team took 3 out of 4 points. The only lost Game 2 by like 7 pins. But, I bowled the 222 that game...so it wasn't my fault.
- Just about every stat is green...so hard to argue it was anything but a good night.

Negatives
- Didn't win ONE card game? I had 4 Kings in Game 1 and still lost!!
- Gotta bowl 3 games...not well one game, great another game, and pee poor the other game.

Two nights we bowled against an absent opponent (or bye) and those are far and away my best nights. I don't think thats a coincidence. Maybe I'm reading the lanes wrong or something. I believe I'm moving correctly and I have a 4-ball arsenal to work with. But I definitely struggle more against opponents. And playing just inside 2nd arrow...it hurts me more than anyone...because my line is breaking down even quicker.
