Game 1 I ran into a couple problems with washouts, but otherwise did fine. Game 2 I missed a 10-pin in the 6th and got dealt a split in the 9th. Game 3 was a couple missed single-pins...a 9-pin in the 3rd and a 4-pin in the 10th.

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 8.97 pins

    Most common single-pin leave: 9-pin (2x)
    Never left a single 1-pin, 5-pin, 7-pin, nor 8-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 44% (4/9)
    Most common multi-pin leave: 3-6-10 (3x)

    Splits: 0% (0/2)

    Average over 3 games: 191.00.
Average had I picked up all single-pin spares: 202.67.

Not a terrible night...just really upset about the poor single-pin spare shooting. AND...we bowled a team that pretty much DEFINED sandbagging. The highest average was about 173...and they had 3 different guys bowl 220-250 games. They pretty much beat two handicap team game season highs and probably the handicap team series...probably too 5 of 7 points in the process. We beat them scratch every game...bowled above our averages...but what are ya gonna do when your opponents are averaging in the 150s-160s and rolling 246 games?

Sounds like our season talking about the sandbaggers. We usually bowl close to our average as a team but when we do have the really good game and beat our average by 100 the other team beats theirs by 200...lol

    Wasn't gonna bowl this season.

    1. Finances are tight.
    2. Looking for a new job (due to #1), which gives me a 65% chance I might have to leave the area.

But, I already missed the summer season due to Covid-19 closing down the centers around here...and last time I missed half a summer season, then a Fall and Summer season...my average dropped from 195 to 175. And, it's never recovered. I've struggled to get back into the 180s ever since.

My team has decided to abandon their spot in the premiere league on Thursday night for a good Men's league on Tuesdays. It's not as high level competition and not the 40-point format with the head-to-head scoring...not as many PBA level bowlers...but if I didn't go with them I'd have been the only one staying and would have had to find a new team.

I'll post the first night's stats here momentarily.

    Tuesday Men's League: THS

    First Week

I've bowled a sum total of ONCE since fall leagues ended abruptly in March due to Covid-19...so I figured this wasn't gonna be pretty.

    570 Series: 194-207-169

Game 1 I was clean except for a horrible shot when I tried to switch balls in the 5th frame.

Switched to the Rhino Gold for Game 2 and managed to run some strikes together. But, also had a couple opens to keep the scoring down.

    The wheels fell off in Game 3. I switched to the Fortera Exile and went X, X, 7 /, 9 /, X...but then went 9 -, 9 -, 9 / 8 to finish.

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 8.65 pins
    Strikes: 44%
    Spares: 64% picked up

    Single Pin spares: 57% (4/7)
    Most common single-pin leaves: 3-pin and 6-pin (2x each)
    Also left a single 7-pin, 9-pin, and 10-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 70% (7/10)
    Most common multi-pin leave: 2-4-5 (4x)

    Splits: 0% (0/3)

    Average over 3 games: 190.00.
Average had I picked up all single-pin spares: 200.33.

I guess I didn't embarrass myself too badly. This IS an easier house. Don Breeden shot a 300...but this is his home turf so I imagine this won't be his last 300 game at this center, this year. I definitely felt rusty.

Definitely not bad after that long a lay off. Don’t know what you’ve been doing to try to stay in shape for bowling, but if you’re like me your intensions were better than your actions, so that third game might be written off to fatigue.

    Glad you’re back!

Good luck with finding a new/better job.

    You spoke too soon...but thanks.

    Tuesday Men's League: THS

    Second Week

    418 Series: 142-161-115

The left lane was awful. I couldn't stay in the pocket to save my life and was punished with splits in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th frames. Add in a chopped 6-10 in the 7th and a missed single 7-pin in the 8th...and Game 1 was a bust.

Again tried to switch to the Rhino Gold in Game 2, but again had problem with single-pins that killed me score.

The wheels fell off in Game 3 (again). I was definitely in "C-Game" territory. And, the results clearly show what happens when I enter "C-Game" territory.

    PinPal Stats:
    First Ball Average: 7.94 pins
    Strikes: 21%
    Spares: 37% picked up

    Single Pin spares: 44% (4/9)
    Most common single-pin leaves: 7-pin (3x)
    Never left a single 1-pin, 2-pin, nor 9-pin.

    Multiple Pin spares: 33% (5/15)
    Most common multi-pin leave: 6-10 (2x)

    Splits: 0% (0/3)

    Average over 3 games: 139.33.
Average had I picked up all single-pin spares: 157.00.

Worst series since April 2015. Wow. What a tremendous night.

I don't have the game, nor the equipment, to stand 20 boards left of center and aim for the center arrow. I just don't have that game. I suppose I could develop it...over time....but I don't have it now. And tonight, there was no shot in the track. I had a shot up the 11-board in practice...but it disappeared quickly and 3rd arrow soon turned to center arrow...and it was just horrible.

Yeah I found myself quickly moving from the down and in 7 board to the 15 board within about 6 frames last night and I was the only lefty on the pair. We were on the end pair so that may have contributed but yeah it went away quick last night too

Just a thought for something you might want to try. My friend Ken, even though he does have the hand and the right equipment to stand left and hook the whole lane, will take a highly polished ball and move right when everyone else is playing left of 19.
Can’t remember which ball it is other than it’s a somewhat older reactive resin ball.

Don Breeden does that as well. It kinda flies in the face of modern bowling convention of always moving left to find oil. But, at the same time, with balls getting so aggressive...many bowlers are having the problem of just running out of room left...even bowlers that should never run out of room left. I should never...IN A MILLION YEARS...be left of 20...unless I'm bowling in some 6-12 round qualifier on burnt conditions or something crazy. These were "supposedly" fresh conditions...same as last week.

At a "normal" house, my progression is to go Grudge Hybrid, Mystic, Exile. At my old Friday house, I had to change it to Mystic, Rhino Gold, Exile. At this house, it's been similar, Grudge Hybrid, Mystic, Rhino Gold, Exile. Going back outside is a possibility; but it usually requires a weaker ball. Right now, that would mean un-retiring the 16lb 300A or the 14lb Blue Knight that is conventionally drilled for someone else's hand.

I think my first approach is going to be to try and open up my shot. Maybe if I can play a "little" deeper...early on...with the Grudge Hybrid...then I won't have to make a ball change so quick in the 1st game. That might save me from hitting so light, so early, and getting all out of whack. I've been trying to hug that oil line around the 11-board with the Grudge Hybrid...and that ball is just too strong. Even with my minimal rev rate...it wants to grab and go. That means as soon as the lanes even start to break down, I'm moving 1:2 inside...sometimes after practice is over. Then the line is too tight and I'm hitting weak.

If that doesn't work...I'm gonna have to start over. That means going to the center sometime during the week and seeing if they'll put down the Tuesday pattern (which they may not)...and then trying my equipment out at 1st arrow...seeing if I have anything that can stay right of the headpin. Maybe bring the 300A and Blue Knight just to see what they can do.

Or, maybe the center just screwed up the pair last week. It's happened. They missed a lane during oiling....they let someone bowl on a lane before we bowled on it...one pair plays notoriously worse for some weird reason having to do with how they built the building, etc... This center is notoriously easy. I averaged 195 here in my only league I bowled here and thats about 15 pins higher than I've been averaging elsewhere. Something Tuesday was "off". The left lane played 4-8 boards different than the right...and I wasn't the only one that was "off".

And I gotta fix the single-pins. I'm not sure how. I miss my coaching. Missy could have fixed my single-pin spare shooting issue two seasons ago. Instead, I just keep shooting them at 57%, then 100%, then 90%, then 57%, then 67%, etc and I can't seem to figure out why. That number should be at least a solid 85% by now. No excuse for that.
