Time to give my Blue Hammer a surface change..........

This might be hard to believe because it involves a THS pattern. On some league nights our alleys are playing on the tight side. My Blue Hammer urethane has a 4000 Abralon surface. On our Saturday league night my ball had trouble getting a good run at the pocket. I was leaving too many 7 and 10 pins on my first ball. I tried adjusting with my feet and standing closer and farther away on the approach. I had to play more up the boards by the way. Our house always oils the alleys right before we bowl.

When I went to the Hammer site to see reaction videos of the Blue Hammer they had their testers using the Blue. One of them was leaving 7 and 10 pins like me. The narrater said the tester made a surface adjustment and after that the ball was making a better run at the pocket and was getting more solid pocket hits. So I decided to try that out for myself. I took the ball to my house pro shop where I bought the ball and had him put an out of box finish on it and change the surface from 4000 Abralon to a 2000 Abralon with a dull finish.

I have an easier time adjusting to a ball that will hook more to the pocket then one where I have to play more straight down the boards on tight conditions. It is the beginning of the season so I thought that this would be a good time to experiment with a surface change. So I will have an idea of a 4000 surface and now a 2000 surface on my Blue. I will see how this works out as far as getting to the pocket on those tighter nights. I am looking forward to this Saturdays league night. I didn't practice with it because those conditions are bone dry and would not give me a correct reaction. So I will be flying by the seat of my pants and hoping for the best. I will have to be up to par on my adjustments.

Interesting, I recently bought a Blue Hammer and forgot to check the surface - is 2000 the usual out of the box? Last week I rolled 3 games with it because the lanes were dry (215, 245 and 159). Last game was plagued with spares I should have picked up. But not that many 10s or 7s.

The out of box finish on a new Blue Hammer is a 4000 Abralon finish. I know how the 4000 works for me so I wanted to see how a 2000 surface will work for my type of bowling. With the 4000 on some nights I was leaving too many 7 and 10 pins on what looked like pockets hits but where actually hits that were coming in on too light of an angle.
