Remember Blue Chip Bowling?
My folks used to go Blue Chip Bowling. I'd paste the stamps in the books and we'd go downtown to redeem them for stuff. One time I got an AM/FM radio. I think my Mom got a blender too.

It was similar to what is currently "colored pin bowling". Same concept, only instead of winning money or free games, you won trading stamps. I was raised in the south, so ours were S&H Green stamps. The Blue Chip stamps weren't as popular there. You collected the stamps, stuck them on pages in books, and then you turned in so many pages/books for merchandise...ie; your blender.
I know my Mom had lots of things we got with stamps, some of which came from bowling as well.
Now, we as a society tend to be lazy and greedy, so we want money given to us immediately, and we don't want to take the time to "collect" anything and wait for our "reward".

They have a version of it on Saturday nights at Linbrooke (talk about ooooold school) called Teddy's Color of Money. Colored pin combinations earn money when you get a strike, or pick up a spare or split. Ticket drawings equal big money if they draw your ticket and you get a strike. They had four $200 drawings the last time I went.
It brought back memories of my folks bowling Blue Chip.
Ahhhh..the good 'ol days of S&H Green Stamps---that's what we had in my neck of the woods. I remember as a kid heading to the trade in store......almost better than Christmas....
I seem to recall that they used to use those trading stamps all over the place for prizes: Bowling, Bingo, Horseshoes, County Fair stuff, etc....
