Default New Pins this week .........

We are getting new pins and different oil where I bowl. How much difference should I expect from
new pins? The old pins are ..... well, old. Some are just dead, while others, you can hear how badly that they are cracked. I am expecting a much better reaction. Unfortunately, that may mean more solid tens.

I am told that the new oil (changing brand/quality) will not break down as fast. What have you experienced when new pins are put in place?

New pins are a little harder to knock over at first. The bases are flatter, but once they get a little wear on them. They'll start falling better.

Given how bad your old pins were, it's conceivable the scores might go up some. Usually scores go down slightly till the pins get broke in.

Good shots will still carry, it's the weaker one's that won't quite carry as well as before.

You'll notice more corner pins (7's and 10's). I find that if I hit the pocket a little light with new pins, you can get them to fall easier because of the pin action. Last year one of the alleys I bowl at got new pins and I was expecting a rough night but ended up shooting 764, just by hitting the pocket light and watching those pins fly, spin, bounce, do everything! lol

Bottom line is get to practice and find your line - from there just play as you normally would.

Changes are always fun and frustrating at the same time. If they're using a different type of oil I'd say that will be more a change than the pins by the third game.

Hmm, oil that will not break down as fast. Sure sounds like Kegel ICE. They used this oil at Nationals and they are right it does not break down as quickly. That's fine for me, I would rather throw the same line longer.

My worst fears realized. I left 8 ten pins last night. That's Ok if I would have made them. I managed to make
2 of them. The rest hooked past by less than 2 inches. That said, I eeked out a 641 - 180 267 194. Missed 4 ten pins in that 194 game. Very dissapointed in myself. Could have had an even better night. At least I cleared my average.

The new pins and oil seemed to be very consistent. It was great to have that kind of reaction every frame. Now time for me to practice ten pin spares.
