Default JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT, GOING 14lbs

Its time to try the Tyrone, theory! Tyrone is a guy that is built like a football linebacker, almost as big a Iceman lol... but much younger!! He swears by the theory that a 14lb ball is what took him to the 225 average he carries now! I have bowled against him a half dozen times! Last time was two summers ago when I just started bowling sanctioned leages, it was a two person league, me and my wife!

Long story short, we both had an outstanding first game 279 each!! LOL This is no shirt!!!! He went on to beat my series, but we were close! It was a 4 game league, and I had a 951, as I rembember its posted below, but I can't see it as I am typing!

He said that his average went UP 20 to 25 pins when he switched from a 15lb ball to a 14lb er!!

He has great re'vs, and stands far left, and shoots around the third to center arrow! He could easily throw a 20lb ball,, lol,,, but said it was the perfect match for him, and many of his friends that he converted.

It will be interesting to see how this experiment turns out.

I am plugging at the very moment the Freight Train that I gave my wife for Christmas, 14lber! It has never worked for her, and does not use it! To much kick at the end for her! It was drilled with the pin up and centered between the middle finger and pinky!

I am getting her a new ball (((that she dosent' know about, and hope to surprise her Sunday, by having it in her bowling bag)))) ( "don't tell please" lol
she will be getting a ball that according to my frined James at BP Proshop will work when the lanes break down, and she can't move enough to make it work with th
hy road purple beast, or fire road. Her new ball will be the Storm tropical breeze,,, her favorite color red and what ever... (

I know the fright train is one of Columbia's top balls a year ago,,,, so I will put it to the test and get back with my thoughts on 14 verse 15 verse 16

My pro shop guy recommended the Tropical Breeze for me but I chose the Frantic instead. I thought the Frantic would have a bit more hook potential than the Tropical Breeze with not much more cost. Plus, with the FreakNFrantic being released, the Frantic was slightly down in price. I like to get balls just when they get discontinued or a new/improved version comes out...usually can get them a bit cheaper.

I currently throw a 15lb, but my "splits" ball is a 14lb. I actually like the 14lb ball for the control. I rarely ever miss my mark with it. The downside is that if I use it for strikes or even 5 to 10 pin spares (yes...I've had to shoot at my fair share of 10 pin spares...embarassment)...it doesn't seem to have the same "kick". It seems to bounce a little more off the pins rather than power through them. But..that may be that it's an old urethane ball...conventional drill...might just not be putting the same revolutions/release...I don't know.

I've bought a couple 16lb balls recently...just to give em a try. But when I finally get my "dream ball" (Mystic Aura)...I actually think I'm gonna go 14lb...especially after reading about your success.

Remember it was not my success, but a guy I bowl against now and then... Tyrone! He swear by it.... and like you and me I am very comfortable with 15 and 16!
The ball I won is a 16 and had a 700 with it after having the trigrip system installed.

I doing this not out of need, but just to experiment, and see how throwing a super light ball reacts with my style of bowling...

The Tri-Grip, was not used on the 725 I just threw,,, its actually one of my older balls, almost 3years old, that I pulled out of moth-balls.... (

It's been working great,, and its 15lbs....

You know the more I grow, and learn about bowling techniques, ,, there is NO REPLACEMENT for good bowling skills, over quality of balls.

    KNOWLEDGE is KING!! IMHO!!

I am testing the physics of bowling with a lighter ball. Sure a better experiment would be to have 3 of the same balls, drilled the same way, other then the fact that they were 14, 15, and 16.

Maybe bowlingboardcom would send me 3 of the same brand to truly test the difference,, I could even make a film of it, and show the difference if any! (

Hey Dnhoffman,,, I am a curious guy! LOL

Default Hello..... Bowlingboard.com are you there??!!! (:/

Please send me 3 new balls, I will pay to have them drilled the same exact way by my local Pro shop... Let's settle once and for all the difference weight makes but setting up a controlled scientific experiment!

Any brand, jus so they are the same identical balls! I will film them and make commits as to how they feel, and the rest will be on video. I will also have Jason the bowling God,,, throw all three, and he can give his opinion!

Jason mr 300's/800s can throw anyone's ball due to his unique style, and grip! I have seen him throw a coconut down the lanes and get a 200 plus game!

One league, last week while bowling with Jason his balls were not working, so he started using a teammates ball,,, (it was the new Hy road on the right lanes, and my IQ pearl on the left lane. He actually got strikes with both balls, and stuck with them.

You talk about the TRI-GRIP, Nothing to compare to the JASON, DUDE, GRIP!! I have never seen a ball that he can't throw, no matter how it was drilled!

So lets make it so,,,, we will film it, and make commits as to the DIFFERANCE between 3 of the same brand and make of balls, only difference would be the WEIGHT, and ICEMAN, and THE DUDE throwing the ball!

We will do this experiment at NO ,,,, NONE,, , 0 charge for our labor!!

Drop Iceman, and The Dude a line when the balls will be arriving so we can set this all up!!

It's for the better good of bowling and humanity, lets do this!

p.s. no charge to iceman and the dude for the experimental balls give for the sole purpose of answering the question does size matter!

All other things being equal the heavier ball will deflect less.

With the modern bowling ball being so strong, some styles (i.e. big hook players) may not achieve enough deflection for the ball to follow an optimum path thru the pins. Usually leaving a 9 pin for right handers. The same throw with a lighter ball will have more, and potentially the optimum amount, of deflection.

there is a movement from a group of 14lb thrower's! They swear that the 14lb ball is what took them up their 225/230 averages! Now this one guy in particular, is built like a Cheif's line backer, and can throw any weight! He use to throw a 16lber, until he found out how much better HE COULD bowl with the 14!

So I wonder,,, is less deflection the whole story??? In his case time after time,,, since the change his average has been strong,,, he stands way left, (he is a right handed bowler), and shoot the center, to 3rd arrow most of the time.

So what your saying is what I THOUGHT was a bad thing! Deflection of the first ball is a GOOD THING? And yes he is a crankier, with 425 rev's..... !

If you have a different style of bowling more down and in,,, like say: standing at 10 and shooting 10 also, with medium/high revs, and medium high speed, is a heavier ball better then a lighter one? In other words, LESS DEFLECTION is better, and thus going heavier might be advantageous ???

This could be an interesting experiment,,, Jason being a cranker, big rev's delivery, and Iceman a tweener with medium high speed!

ICEMAN, one thing to keep in mind with changing weights on bowling balls, you will certainly be toying with your timing which could lead to some frustrating times on the lanes.
