Thread: Risk/reward of playing deep inside.

Default Risk/reward of playing deep inside.

Wednesday night the pair of lanes I was bowling on got fried from several high rev righties playing in the same area of the lane. I was slow in making adjustments but finally moved way inside with them. I have been working on the ability to do this over the last 3 years and am making steady progress but every time I play that part of the lane it is either feast or famine. If I throw the ball like I want right speed/target/angle I strike, however, if I miss one of these variables by a small margin I end up with large splits, big 4 6-7-10 ect. Is this a common problem? Usually after playing this line for 8-9 frames I get sick of the opens from 2-3 large splits and move back outside where strikes are a little less frequent but spare leaves are very friendly.

Do I just need to take some bad scores to continue to gain comfort and confidence in the deep inside line? Are there any tips to playing this line that would reduce the chance of the large splits?

There's actually a bunch of good info in this thread http://www.bowlingboards.com/threads...4563#post94563

And also in this article. http://www.modern-bowling.com/Bowlin...-Vegas-NV.html

But one of the points in this article was actually about watching your opponent and beating them to the adjustment or using their style to benefit yours.

I'm not very good and just recently started throwing a hook but the article is well written and has a bunch of good info.

playing deep requires a 3 point targeting system board ur want to hit where your throwing it out to so say u wanna hit board 34 and throw it out to 16 mark 1 and 2 are there the 3rd is your break point

I struggle with playing deep inside. The shot has to be super precise - off a little bit either way or in any little thing it's a light hit or hooks way too far - even past brooklyn. I just can't be consistent with the shot. Rarely do I ever feel the need to go deep inside though - especially since I am left handed and usually the only one playing the left side. Couple of weeks this year absolutely nothing outside was working so I went inside and it really wasn't any better. Maybe if I was to practice it over and over I could get it. But to me the outside shot seems better because there is a large margin for error there. I can actually adjust the shot as I throw it - knowing my angle is off or my arm shoots left and the ball is going to go near the gutter at the last second I can let off the speed a bit and dive deep into the pocket. But I can say the inside shot is pretty deadly when you get it right - when it is right it hits super hard and I have never been tapped or left splits with that shot. Problem is if I am off just a tiny bit I leave all kinds of nasty splits that are near impossible to pick up like 6-7-10.

I just started getting my rhythm back into playing deep inside. I don't do it often unless it's necessary, but I would say depending on how deep you wish to play, you would happen to have to tighten your blueprint from the target you want to hit and where your breakpoint should be before making its turn. And of course, it depends on how much you put on the ball. The bowlers with not much hand would more likely be forced to tighten their line, and the power players get send the balls further right or left if they're left handed, due to their rev rate. Overall, it just depends on how deep you wish to play.
    My bowling balls include:
Brunswick Brute Strength, Brunswick Mastermind Genius, DV8 Endless Nightmare, DV8 Diva, DV8 Diva Pearl, DV8 Marauder Mutiny, & Brunswick White Viz-A-Ball spare ball

I played deep on our last league night. I was useing a Raw Hammer Anger ball in the first two games and a Blue Hammer urethane ball to pick up certain spares. By the end of the second game the Anger ball was too hard to controll to get good pocket hits. I was standingon board 25 to 27 and throwing over the third arrow(board 15) out to my breakpoint which was between board 4 to 9. So I made a ball change and used my Blue Hammer urethane ball for both shots in each frame. I was throwing more direct with my sliding foot arch on board 20 and throwing across the second arrow(board 10) to board 5. My Blue at that time was getting a better run at the pocket. Playing deep is kind of tricky. You have to have good speed controll and good aiming to your breakpoint.
