Buddies Winter Challenge League week 35
Pattern: Earl Anthony 43'
Scores:154, 174, 157
Weird night, we usually have five bowlers on each pair. The league manager lets people switch to a different starting pair to even the numbers if a pair has six bowlers scheduled. There were six scheduled for my pair, four of them were AWOL, and the other decided to bowl on a pair with more of his friends leaving me by myself. I let the manager know there was no one else on my lane , so he said to move to one of the pairs with 4 bowlers. So we bowled with one pair of lanes idle each game.

Total embarrassment. I'm not entirely sure why I was so off, but I think as Yogi Berra might have said it was "90% half mental".

After the first week I decided to go lefty for the Summer. Had a Radical Results Solid and a Results Plus drilled and was pleasantly surprised that one of them worked on this pattern, and was able to make most of my spares. I think at least part of the fourth game drop was from being at the center from 4:30 pm to help register kids for the summer youth league until well past 10:30.

The lefty experiment continues. There are just enough decent shots to keep it going. The ball looked good coming off my hand 38 times out of 40. I made all my 7 pins. Quite a few of the opens were from trying to hook at the spare to get a better idea of where the strike line should be.
At least next week we switch to a new pattern and I can start with new mistakes!

Pattern Marshall Holman 41'
Scores:
Set 1:122, 146
Set 2: 145, 185
Had some sliding/sticking issues the first game. New pattern this week. I think is transitions faster than the last one. In the first set, my opponent was the only one of us four to top 200. The second game he only shot 170, and I was either even or ahead through the 7th frame. one of the other two bowlers got hot and shot 230 but the fourth bowler continued to struggle.
Second set I moved one pair to the left and the person I was supposed to bowl was absent. This league uses a blind score of 172 so at least I was able to take a couple points.

Pattern Del Ballard 34'
Scores:
Set 1:136, 146
Set 2: 129, 147
I was out sick for week 5 and then we didn't bowl on July 4th. I had planned on skipping coaching, (the summer youth league runs 6p.m. to about 8:00p.m.) but found out that the other coach was sick so I had to have supper early and get over to the alley. By the time the Challenge league started I didn't have the energy to maintain focus.

This week I showed up at the end of youth league. Instead of my normal warm-up I just did five ball drill. I think both of these helped my scores improve this week. Still missed a few easy spares the fourth game but shooting spares lefty is exhausting. I don't know how real lefties do it!

I missed week 8 and I lost my copy of the league rules which listed the names of the patterns. I will just repeat what my friend Matt, who had been told by the person he was subbing for that it was a 34' pattern, said, "It's not short."
I decided to go early enough to help coach the junior league. None of the other coaches showed up
The kids actually finished early for a change, which left me with an hour wait because we bowl on the same lanes as the kids and they have to be re-oiled.
