    DV8 Challenge 9/11/23 (Week 1)

    Pattern: ??????(Short)

    Scores:
    140, 137, 134, 411 series

First night. The league manager didn't seem quite ready for the season to start. Normally we get a copy of the league rules which includes a list of the patterns we will be bowling on. Instead we got a verbal run down of how things would go, were told the first pattern was short and drew numbers for lane assignments. The format is weird. Position round every week plus bowling against the field. I drew #19 so I bowled against my friend Mark who had drawn #20. I won one game but lost the next two. However I also got a point for every score that I beat in the rest of the field.
They posted the standings and I'm in 22nd place out of 26. Places 21, 22, 23, 24 bowl against the vacant score of 172, while 25 and 26 bowl each other.

Buddies Winter Challenge 9/18/23 (Week 2)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 35'

    Scores: 144,157, 165, 466 series

If you noticed that the name of the league has changed since my post for the first week, the reason is last week I was going by the center's list of Fall/Winter leagues. Looking at the standing sheet last night the name was back to last year's version.

At least the scores went up instead of down this week.

Buddies Winter Challenge 10/2/23 (Week 4)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 45'

    Scores: 140, 135, 188, 463 series

Strange night. First game started okay then I started missing all my spares to the right. Second game was alternating spares and opens. Third game I had the high game on the pair and the only turkey of the game. The other bowlers on the pair were in 1st 2nd and 12th place going into the competition, I was coming in at 21st. The league is set up as being a position round every week. first twenty places bowl head to head on the same pair, next four bowl on different pairs and last place always bowls the vacant team and must beat 172 to win a game.

I can only imagine how hard those patterns are. Makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

Every bowler, before making a comment like "I can bowl better than these guys (PBA bowlers on TV)"...should have to bowl just 3 nights in a challenge or sport shot league.

PBA Shark was like, the first PBA pattern I ever bowled on. Here are the PBA/Challenge patterns I've bowled and the results (avert your eyes if you're squeemish):

    PBA Shark: 161.00 (8 games)
    PBA Wolf: 147.75 (4 games)
    WTBA Beijing: 125.25 (4 games)
    PBA Scorpion: 154.43 (14 games)
    PBA Cheetah: 152.75 (12 games)
WTBA Mexico City: 146.75 (4 games)
PBA Dick Weber: 170.80 (10 games)
    WTBA Sydney: 142.00 (1 game)
    PBA Viper: 148.50 (4 games)
    PBA Chamelion: 161.00 (1 game)
USBC White Pattern: 179.00 (6 games)
    Brunswick Inferno: 162.33 (6 games)
    Brunswick Rhino: 140.83 (6 games)
Brunswick The Deep: 139.67 (3 games)
Brunswick Black Diamond: 162.75 (8 games)
    PBA Don Johnson 40: 157.00 (1 game)

    All PBA/Sport/Challenge Pattern Average: 155.85 (92 games)

I remember liking PBA Dick Weber...and hating PBA Wolf and Brunswick The Deep. I remember thinking I was going to love the Wolf pattern, because it was so short, but man...that one seemed impossible!

I thought I would do well on the Don Carter pattern. 187 says otherwise....

Buddies Winter Challenge 10/9/23 (Week 5)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 45'

    Scores: ???????? series

Missed grabbing a copy of the recap. As I recall it wasn't good.

Buddies Winter Challenge 10/16/23 (Week 6)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 45'

    Scores: 129, 140, 148, 417 series

Buddies Winter Challenge 10/23/23 (Week 7)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 40'

    Scores: ??????? series

Missed getting a copy of the recap again. Probably a subconscious reaction to the way I've been bowling.

Buddies Winter Challenge 10/30/23 (Week 8)

    Pattern: Junior Gold 40'

    Scores: 165, 161, 174, 500 series

Spare shooting was much better, not really as good as I expect to be, but getting there.
