my mark
After I am setup and ready to start my approach I focus on two things separately of course. As I start my approach I focus on my swing. The thing I focus on is my hand. I make myself aware that my hand stays straight or a little cupped and stays that way to the top of the swing. Once I know that checked out okay my focus is on staying behind the ball and not turning my hand early before the release zone. I have my body set and my target set before I get going. This might seem complicated to you but my brain and body are use to this system. My hand seems to be the automatic focus as I start my swing. Doing this seems to keep me from getting anxious about the shot at hand.

Looking at my mark but focusing on staying as relaxed as possible.
"push...back, back...forward and release/form"
I usually focus on that as I take my 4 steps. The hardest part is the last step because there's so much more going on at the same time...plus trying to hit your mark...trying to get a good release so you have revs on the ball...all the while staying low and not "forcing" it...while maintaining a good form and follow-through...and not going over the foul line. It's as if you have 3-4 things happening in the first 3 steps...then about 6-7 things happening in that last step.

Once I set my feet in the right spot, or rather what I think is the right spot, I look at the point where my initial trajectory would go off the lane. Then I bring my focus back to my target at the arrows. Once my feet start moving every thing is on autopilot.

Just my mark, but only because they don't let squirrels on the lanes...
Only things I worry about are speed of body, speed of arm, and hitting my mark.
1. Keeping the feet from moving too fast.
2. Focusing on my target area. I usually don't use an arrow since I target closer to the line.

I focus on the pink whale tail on the lane next to me...unfortunately. Nothing causes you to mess up your timing more than a thong.
Well, actually, I had an old man fall down on the lane next to me once during my approach and THAT was probably the MOST distracting thing to see out of the corner of your eye. But a close second...thong on a 20 something female...followed by the stupid snack bar announcing "Cliff! Your order is ready! Cliff!" over the PA system.
