    Default Too much tape

I have found something out that has helped my game a bunch! On my thumb hole I started out just using it on the inside of my thumb to protect the side of my knuckle! Then I started putting it up the back of the thumb, and down the outside.

Not only WAS I ,, wasting it,,, but I was not getting the ball out like I use to... and sometimes dropping it!

The thumb tape I use is like spandex material very slick! I even experimented with different textures,,, long story short!

I now, and have been for the last few weeks, just taping the on side of the thumb that needs it,,, ( I think)!

It feels a hell of a lot better now in my release, and I am having much more consistent games.

I guess what I am saying is experiment with your tape,,, FIND THE TYPE, AND PLACEMENT THAT WORKS FOR YOU!

IT CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERANCE IN YOUR SCORING!!

TAPING is an ART FORM that once mastered can increase your average a bunch!

I only use two pieces in each slugit. Take one out as thumb swells, switch to new slugit after that.

I think that Iceman is referring to skin protection tape, not the tape that gets applied in the thumb hole.

Default Yes J was taling about skin protection!!

Yes J, I was talking about the skin protection tape! I am not into probing the inner thumb hole on any bowling ball!
I just put it on my thumb, and it works great! I wonder what advantage, (if their is any to putting tape in the thumb hole vs on the thumb)???

I usually have 1 or 2 pieces of rough white in the front of the thumbhole and then use a piece of #3 HADA patch on the back of my thumb

I am starting to prefer taping my thumb as well. I will still use tape in the thumb hole if needed as a space filler, but prefer the cleaner release with tape on the thumb. I have started to experiment with putting the tape more on the side of thumb (the inside of the thumb closer to palm) and like the feel.

Obviously its mostly personal preference, just find what works for you. Watching the Chameleon Championship Ryan Ciminelli tapes his thumb in a different way. Looks like he has two pieces on each side that overlap on top covering all of his thumb exept a narrow strip down the center of the inside of his thumb. Everyone has their own way to get the job done, whatever works right...

Yes I started out with it on the inside of the thumb, then went with it on each side! Then put it on the both sides and up the middle between them! I am now back to just up the inside but do, and have experimented with favoring the back some what! I have learned to tweak the tape where one piece works for me now!

Remember they have different colors, which corresponds to a much different feel and release! I am just getting to know how to use them! It can effect the outcome of a game BIG!

I don't bowl without it now! (you can even use different colors in different positions,,, I use Green on the outside of thumb, and blue on the inside sometimes. so combinations can make a huge difference!

I'm still a tape virgin.....I'm always worried if I put tape in the ball that it will be too tight or something, and then I'll have to take it out, and then my thumb hole will be all sticky. I never had much issue getting out of the ball, or any issues with the skin on my thumb, so I never felt the need to put tape on my thumb either. Maybe one day I'll try it and wonder what the hell I was doing without it all this time ....

Most of the time the tape sold for adjusting the thumb hole doesn't leave a sticky residue. Some times if the tape is left in too long it will. On the other hand, when I used to use electrical tape, it always left a sticky mess.

I haven't for obvious reasons tried duct tape. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmaBPAldQEE
