Didn't they also change the pins at some point?
The pins where changed to include one or two voids in the 60's I believe. Pins became heavier over time as advancements were made in the manufacturing process. Solid pins originally weighed 3 lb 5oz then in 1947 pins started being laminated out of several pieces of wood. The glue increased the pin weight slightly. By 1954 pins had both a plastic coating and a plastic base which increased the pin weight to 3 lb 8 oz, then in 1961 the neck size was increased which increased the pin weight another oz.

I swear I used to have info on what happened after that but I can't find the info now. The neck size was increased in 1961 and the voids were added after that. If memory serves me this decreased the pin weight to 3 lb 2 oz and that was the lightest pins ever were. I believe pins are actually HEAVIER now than they used to be weighing up to 3 lb 10 oz.

Ok everyone come on down and bowl on our house shot if everyone thinks
the THS is so easy now days, we have one of the hardest shots in the state
so there is no easy shots here LOL!!!!

We might if we're lucky have 2 or 3 sanctioned 300 games per season and
sometimes we don't even have a 300 game bowled during the season and
we've only had something like 6 or less sanctioned 800 series over a 40+
year period that the center has been open.

We have quite a few excellent bowlers around here and a couple of ex-PBA
regional members and even they struggle with the shot here.

The next closest center that is about 90+ miles away round trip that has a
sport shot league and several of the bowlers that make the trip there carry
a higher average on the sport shot than they do on our THS so that really
says something to me about our shot.

All the views are do to the search engines crawlers and bots, also spammer bots scan the threads also harvesting information and checking for for the threads they post.

That's also why when you look at the whos online and see 100's of guests and 50-60-70 users, virtually all of those are search engine bots and banned spammers.

Just came by to see what the guy with a 130 something average had to say about awards and see he's going on again about the game being too easy. SMH.

Why do you think Bowl1820 couldn't convince the site administrator to perm-ban me? I literally bring 13,000 views to this site just by me being me. You're welcome.

OR…OR…it's because I'm awesome and people want to read what I write.

Ahhh….here we go! I forgot…vdub believes that there should be some minimum average before members are allowed to post. My bad. But…what was the magic number again. I'm up to 138…just wanna get the official number so I don't waste my time. It'll be good…give me something to shoot for!!

But seriously…the reason why us ***t bowlers care about this; while the likes of vdub and Iceman may not…is that some of us are just starting to get into bowling more seriously…and our "awards" are soon to be coming. For those that have 11 rings in their sock drawer…I doubt they care much. But for those of us that still take a great deal of pride in even coming close to bowling a 300 game…it'd be nice if by the time we do it…it's still an accomplishment worth recognition.

vdub got me off topic with his antics…I feel like Randy Peterson distracted by a fan…okay, back on target….

    What about THIS idea!??

How bout give out an unlimited number of $40 selenium/whatever junk rings for any accomplishment bowled on THS shots (sanctioned). They could keep track of the centers that are winning more than other centers (on average) and perhaps raise the fees for that center accordingly to offset the statistical difference between their center and an "average" center.

Then…the USBC gives out actual gold rings for bowlers that bowl 300/800/900/etc… games on sport shots or USBC/PBA patterns.

This would still allow the everyday bowlers to get "some" recognition for bowling 300s/800s etc… even if it's on easier conditions. But it wouldn't pinch the USBC in terms of cost. And it would provide some incentive to "easy" bowling centers to maybe toughen things up a bit to keep from paying extra money to the USBC. AND…it provides incentives to bowlers who have gotten their "rink dink" awards to maybe step it up and bowl on tougher patterns or in tournaments where the awards could be quite valuable.

I mean if you're a professional like Bowl1820, or vdub, or Iceman…or even the "unsanctioned wonder" ZDawg (joking)…wouldn't you give it a "little" more consideration to start bowling on sport patterns or even talking your center into starting a sport pattern league if you KNOW you're capable of bowling a 300 game and doing so on that tougher pattern could win you a $500 gold ring versus the aluminum one that you've already won 12 times???

And I still think this will add cost to leagues/centers…which I think I'm allowed to comment on despite me low average…because I think the burden of awarding things like 11 in a row will now fall on the leagues/centers. Not sure…just have a feeling it will.

Nope, never said or implied that anyone of any average wasn't "allowed" to post. I just feel that if you are a bowler that you at least back up the game you seem to know SO much about. If you put as much effort into improving your game with some of the comments you throw out here about form and ball reaction etc. than you do posting your epic long posts, you would surely be a 160+ bowler by now. Many of your comments are full of knowledge and they do make sense, just put them into your game and you can improve by leaps and bounds.

Not even going to go into the subject you brought up about Sport patterns as that has been hashed over too many times.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! You too Aslan(not joking).
