Thread: Replacing med/dry lane ball

    Default Replacing med/dry lane ball

I'm currently looking at getting a new ball to replace both my Cherry Vibe that cracked and my 14lb brunswick wizard. I currently throw a DV8 Hellraiser Terror and a Ebonite Maxim spare ball. I also have a Black Widow Venom. I do thoroughly enjoy my HRT but as the lane breaks down, it gets tougher to keep from going too far left.

I currently throw thumbless(Blasphemy around here I know but thats how Ive been throwing for ten years and don't plan on changing anytime soon.), so I have high revs and right around 15-15.5 mph. I average ~170 on fairly oily lanes.

My cherry vibe was actually one of my favorite balls as it was very controllable on most lane conditions, and my wizard is a pound lighter than everything else so I want to replace it as well.

I have been looking at the misfit line but not sure if they would be a great fit.

tl:dr - I want a medium to dry lane ball that will assist me once lanes start drying up/breaking down.

    Recommendations?

If you're throwing thumbless I'd just get a Urethane ball for a burnt up shot. Storm Natural, Motiv Tank, Hammer Blue Ball... All good solid controllable pieces.

Even with my speed dominant low revs I can use a polyester ball (like my white dot, or a maxim...) when the shot is burnt to hell, but I'd recommend urethane because it's more versatile and will last you longer.

I thought about that but I want it for more than just burnt up lanes. I still would like to be able to use it on mediumish oil as well. I was looking into the dv8 dude but with my revs that still might be too much ball for light/medium oil.

You have the right idea. the Misfit line would fit right into what you want.

Without knowing your shot I cant give specifics but any of the misfit line will be less agressive than the HRT.

The new Misfit solid red/orange is even less agressive than last years misfit line. so if you get a Misfit make sure you know which one you are getting.

Last years misft line is a step down from the HRT the new misfit solid line is a step and a half down imo.

Misfit would definatly be a better choice than the Dude for drier lanes. Other choices would be Storm Tropical Breeze, Ebonite Cyclone, Motiv Ascent Pearl, or the upcoming Roto Uproar

The trouble with urethane for thumbless bowlers is the lack of flare. It depends on the bowler but for me I would probably have to shift the thumb hole right to keep from hitting it. Often the middle finger hole is even a bigger issue than the thumb.

I ended up going to the pro shop and picking up the original dv8 marauder. A bit stronger than I originally was planning on getting but after throwing a number of games with it tonight I don't think I made a bad decision. Very predictable reaction and good length.

Original Marauder is a great ball. Being a hybrid it gives you the best of both worlds. You will probably still need to pick up something for drier lanes

Possibly, but this seems to have accomplished what I wanted for now. Most of the lanes I throw on are med-heavy oil so when the lanes start breaking down this has been perfect. I can come back outside with this ball which is a nice as most of the time with my terror Im standing at 35 and throwing it over the 4th arrow. I can now stand more around 20-22 and don't have to throw it out so far.

I felt that If I picked up the misfit or similar than I would have trouble getting it to come back on the lanes I normally throw at(Even after the lanes start breaking down)
