    Default Fail.

Wow. Can't believe what happened to me tonight. I guess I'll start with the good news first... I shot another 300 tonight and my first with the DV8 Dude. It's my 8th sanctioned and 15th overall since I started again and been bowling these last two years.

Now to the bad news... I needed a SPARE, or STRIKE to insure an 800 series in the 10th frame. JUST A MARK! I was thinking of that though, I wanted all 3 strikes! I wanted my highest series ever. I wanted that 827 series. I saw the lanes breaking down a lot for other bowlers, but my line was holding up well. I was moving left when I needed to and stayed ahead of the transition all night! So I throw the ball and I love where I threw it.. Right on my mark. annnnnd.... It takes off, as it hits a dry board. Goes a little high, and it leaves a split. Not a baby split, or even a split that has a realistic shot at being picked up, but a damned 4-6 split. I'm just shocked. That would have been my 4th 800 in the same aforementioned time period, but it would have been my first where I bowled a 300 on the same night.

I suppose it's actually the karma train catching up to me, and it's somewhat deserved. Last summer, a buddy of mine was nearly in the same situation, and I had actually thought he already locked up the 800. So I went and prematurely congratulated him, and what do you know.. He left a big 4 and he didn't bowl the 800 (his first). I had a guy do the EXACT same thing to me tonight.. Gave me the congrats to which I promptly said I needed to mark. Honestly though, that had nothing to do with it. Something like that won't ever get into my head. As I said, I threw it right where I wanted to, so I don't have any resentment at all towards him. I honestly thought it would be a piece of cake as I really only missed the pocket ONCE the entire night. I didn't foresee that ball cutting like it did, but boy, it sure sucks.

I hope you saved some of that for tomorrow!!! Maybe another 300, and that 800 with Iceman. See you tomorrow!

That's still great bowling! One thing that you said reminded me of a lesson I was giving three or four years ago. It was a very good, high average bowler, whose main issue was closing the deal in the tenth frame. He would have a great game going and then throw a bad shot in the tenth to keep from finishing really high. As he was bowling, he finally had a reall good game going, and he came up in the tenth and threw a strike. I congratulated him on throwing a really good shot, and asked him what he was going to do next. He replied, "Throw the next two," so I went to the approach and handed him two bowling balls at once. He asked what I was doing. I told him him that since he was thinking about throwing two strikes at once, he'd better have a ball in each hand. He got the message, and calmly threw the next ONE. After that, he threw the final ONE. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to remember that whatever the result that we ultimately want to see, all we can do is to make one good shot at a time.

Even though you missed the mark, still a awesome 3 rounds of bowling and congrats on the first 300 with the DV8 Dude!

My brother has about 20 800 series, and when I was struggling to get my first I blew a couple chances on the last game. He told me the reason he got his first and keeps getting them is because he doesn't care and isn't adding his scores. Just bowls.

I got my first on a night when I was having fun in a social league, just doing my thing and presto.

Expectations will screw ya every time...and worse make it feel like you failed even with a high 700 series.

Congrats on that, and the 300, still some fine bowling!!!

I think your brother had it right, and so does Rob! I have found myself looking ahead, instead of just bowling ONE FRAME at a time.

I never do well when I start adding up what I NEED TO GET a certain series, or even game!

Its almost like jinxing yourself!! lol I have actually noticed that it happens quite often. If I start worring about a combination of what if shoots to make a certan score, IT NEVER HAPPENS!

I will never forget my last 300, and 780 series,,, I just stayed lose, and didn't think at all about the next shoot, or WHAT THE SCORE COULD BE, just in THE MOMENT!

I am not, nor will ever be a bowler with the skills, and talent of Jason, The Dude as I call him, but I think its good advise to keep it simple, don't think ahead other then staying on top of the lane change, and make those adjustments.
Again Bud.... GREAT BOWLING! I know you pretty well, and believe me when I say YOU WILL Get that combination 300/800 on the same series in the VERY NEAR FUTURE! Hang in there,,, your still a pup!!!

Nice bowling! Congrats on the 300. Bummer about the 800. I went high twice in the tenth for mine and both carried. Sometimes you just get lucky. Do it again next week and I'll bet the odds will turn in your favor.
