    Default Average Help

I will be bowling in the Firefighters Olympics in July. I was told I needed an average to be placed in the correct group. Problem is I haven't been able to a consistent answer on how to obtain my average.
I've been told I need to bowl 9 games (3 sets of 3), and I've been told I can't get an average unless I bowl a minimum of 21 games in a league.
Just trying to find out how to get this done.

Most tournaments use your league average. If you have no league average you would have to check the tournament rules, but most time you'll have to come in with 200 average if no league average.

Typically the standard was 200, but with the higher averages now a days. You might see a higher one like 220, It would depend on the specfic tournament rules and the area your in.

The main thing is you would be bowling scratch.

Most tournaments will want you book average. (Sanctioned league average from the prior year).

IF you don't have one...they will use your sanctioned league average from the current season (in most cases).

IF you don't have either of those things...they usually just throw you in the scratch division and give you the 200 or 220 average mentioned below.

Thats one of the real advantages of usbc sanctioned leagues is it establishes your average for tournaments and such. I'm sure you can find some podunk tournament that will just take your word for it or use a non-sanctioned league average...but I imagine you'll then end up with bowlers claiming they have a 121 average and "Oh my God...they shoot the "game of their life" and shoot a 734 series!! WOW!"
