Default Woe is me - a "feeling sorry for myself" post

Got the news today from my orthopedic surgeon. I have been having a great deal of pain and swelling in my left (read - sliding) knee. Had an MRI yesterday and the results are a partial tear in my medial collateral ligament and a tear in my medial meniscus. Recently, there have been times when I could barely stand to walk straight, let alone bowl with any velocity or accuracy. The MRI of my lower back showed bulging discs in my L2, L3,L4 and L5 with stenosis in my L4 and L5 vertebraes. T11 and T12 have evidence of calcified compression fractures as well. Surgery for the left knee is scheduled for 2/17. What does this all mean? Bye bye bowling for the time being.

Would anybody here like to join me in my self-pity and pity me too? Actually, I am feeling pretty bad right now as I will miss our beloved game for awhile - BUT - I am going to use this as motivation to come back stronger and more physically fit than I have been in a long time!

I am serving notice to all the little bowling pins out there that have been enjoying my poor bowling as of late due to my injuries - when I come back [and I will come back!] there will be unholy h*** to pay.

In the mean time, I will be having more time to hang out with you all and vicariously enjoy your bowling exploits.

    Jay,
Sorry to hear about your knee and back injuries I know
exactly how you are feeling as I'm pretty much in the
    same shape.

I have my L4 and L5 discs ruptured and disc degeneration
on the rest of my back along with some arthritis in the mix
and the meniscus in my right knee is torn badly and the left
knee (my sliding foot) is almost in the same shape along with
osteoarthritis thrown in on top of that.

I have been taking shots in my knees and lower back once a
month from my regular DR. and that helps for a few days at a
time but I got some shoots from an orthopedic surgeon back in
2011 when I first came back to bowling that helped a little longer.

I may break down and have the surgery done on my knees one
of these days as it is getting harder and harder to get around on
them now and to get up off of a chair/couch.

Hang in there Jay! Sending lots of healing {{{MOJO}}} your way and wishing you a speedy recovery!! Those damn pins better just fall down when they see you coming!!

It sounds funny but when I was off from bowling after surgery I pulled out our old bowling video game and got the PBA Challenge on my phone. It actually helped with the withdrawls a bit.

After two months I was ready to go down to the lanes and pull out the kiddie ramp though!!
