So I had my Karma drilled with 1/2" reverse pitch in the fingers. The ball driller said one of my balls was pitched slightly away in the fingers and another looked like it was slightly forward. He also said my grips were too tight. I told him I knew the grips were tight but that's how I like them. We both agreed that reverse pitch in the finger holes should get the ball to sit flatter in my palm.
Well what happened was, I can't feel the fingers at release! I called him and he told me to give it time and I would almost surely get used to it. I told him it felt like I was palming the ball and I was coming over the top and pulling many shots. He said to give it time. Well I have given it time and it has gotten MUCH WORSE. My accuracy is out the window. I don't know when the ball is going to come off my hand. It is falling off to the inside. I'm topping it. I'm spraying it all over and I can't feel the ball come off my fingers. So finally I tried using one of my other balls. I STILL CAN'T FEEL THE BALL COME OFF MY FINGERS! I started spraying those balls all over as well. In short, I LOOKED LIKE A TYPICAL THUMBLESS BOWLER.
I also don't think the grips are quite tight enough even though they are probably one size too small. See my game has developed over the years. I have made small changes and they have added up. What works for me is very tight grips, and they have to be regular ovals, and little to no reverse in the finger holes so I can really feel the fingers. So when I start to release the ball I go from being a thumbless bowler to a more conventional release in a split second. As the ball comes off, instead of just palming it, I come through it with my fingers and that allows me to project the ball down my target line and cut down the axis rotation. The ball doesn't simply fall off the inside of my hand.
That video I posted I think really does show a bad release with the Karma ball even though I thought it was good. I think the driller was right when he said I come more up the back of the ball. I can't feel the fingers in the Karma so I'm palming it more and coming around the ball more.
The Karma WILL be re-drilled with the pitches I want. Oh, and my game got better within three games of using one of my old balls. It's still not back 100%.
