Do you use your thumb? Do you know a lot of other good bowlers? Borrow their balls for a few shots and try them out. I know I would like a Hyroad Pearl because I borrowed one for a game and it worked great for me.
The only reason I ask is because I wouldn't mind trying a higher end ball at some point, but I already generate a lot of hook throwing 2-handed. I really would like a First Blood, but I assume out of the box it would probably hook too hard for me. I was wondering if it would just be stupid of me and a waste of money to get a used one and take it to like a 4000 grit and see if it would work out well for me. My 15lb Storm Street Rod used to hook a little too hard for me and I did the same thing and it worked out great. I don't think it's a higher end ball ball like a First Blood or Brutal Nightmare though.
I also have a 14lb Misfit Pearl which I'm not very happy/ or sold with other than it making a good spare ball. I was hoping it would have a tad bit more bite, but man that thing does not like coming back on wide hooks. It also doesn't seem to hit too hard, probably that's what I get for grabbing the 14.

Can you get good results by taking hard hooking ball and taking it to a finer grit?
Sure you can, But you can have bad results also. It all depends on You, the conditions, the ball and how they match up.
What works on one condition, might not work on another.
As for getting a used ball and trying different grits and seeing if it works out. A lot of bowlers do that to experiment, if you can get one for a good price go for it.

Yeah I bowl thumb-less 2-handed
That's good to know, the pro-shop around the corner has a 15# First Blood used. Seems like the price was nice for it too.
You have an advantage bowling two handed in that you can use less aggressive and lower end equipment and get great results. In fact on most conditions higher end stuff that usually hooks more might be a waste of money. You never really know though, so it's worth borrowing some higher end stuff to find out. Of course that stuff may not be polished....
