    Default Beginner Tips/Help?

I'm new to the game of 10 pin. I've been an avid 5 pin bowler, which is the most common variation of bowling up here in Canada, my whole life. Bowling is probably the thing I enjoy doing the most. I know a lot about 10 pin bowling because I watch it on TV all the time, and I've realized the sport offers more opportunities for a bowler like myself and it's cool to try a new variation of bowling. I went 10 pin bowling yesterday and threw 15 games. I'm not very good yet, I was just learning how to throw and trying to find a spot and stuff like that, I was mostly throwing within the 160 range. Anybody have any tips for a beginner? I had troubles getting my ball to hook but maybe that was because I was throwing a house ball. Most of my strikes were Brooklyn to be honest. Had some good pocket hits but not nearly as many as I wanted. Tips?

Welcome to Bowlingboards. My suggestion is to go to Youtube and learn as much as possible from the plethora of instructional videos that are out there.

Another good resource is BowlVersity... LINK Lots of great information that you can definitely spend hours going over and can put some of it into practice.

Just a few outlets you can go for some tips etc, but there are plenty more out there.

If you are serious about getting into it, I would certainly invest in getting a low-mid range bowling ball drilled up specifically for you.

    Have fun and good luck!

    1) Does 5-pin bowling even exist? Canadiens. pfft. They always do stuff "slightly weirder" than the US just to say they're different. Just like football. Can you just play it the 'right' way and have the same number of people on the field? I mean, we didn't change hockey when we started playing it.

    2) Search for my youtube videos and do what I do. I'm awesome.

    basic tips

hitting to far right move right hitting to far left move left on a house shot 2-4 boards is a pretty solid move

if you want a ball to hook id buy one to be honest it will help ya out

work on basic 4 or 5 step approach

i would start off since your semi new to getting a free back swing right off the back wait till you feel a float at the top of your back swing and wait on the ball at the line

and dont aim for the pins aim at the arrows or dots somthing closer to where you will finish

Haha somewhat true. It was actually invented by a Canadian because people at his alley were complaining that the 10 pin balls were too heavy. So he downsized the pins and balls. Anyway I've been watching a few videos, been learning. Probably gonna invest in my own ball.

Yes I'd been doing this, just like in 5 pin, the arrows and adjustment. Although in 5 pin it's usually a 3 step or a 5 step. I just happen to take a 3 step. Guess I have some adjusting to do to convert to a 4 step.
