As a HS assistant coach at a small HS, it is very frustrating to have kids want to be on the team who have never bowled in league or otherwise seriously at all. My job is to get them the basics, footwork, timing and release. With limited practice time, all of the coaching staff tells the kids that they will not excel in the long run if the basics aren't there and they have to practice on their own as well, and we will come and help them. Instead they come in to the center mess around on thier own and have thier bowling friends "teach" them and then we spend all practice undoing bad form and habits because they were lucky and got some strikes. We have limited resources and time, so if they will not even try to do what we are teaching them, we will concentrate on those that will.
