With the weight of the ball on the non-bowling hand, push the ball out with the fourth step back from the line and let it drop. Gravity will do all the work for you.
I have a habit of muscleing the ball with a bent elbow (from throwing house balls) and would like to change to the correct technique of "swinging" the ball relying on momentum/pendulum. How would you describe the motion/steps of this approach?

well you don't have to change your approach or anything just have to let gravity do its job and 1 thing to remember don't force the ball let it goes on its own, it will take time for you to get use to it I know I use to.
but know on my swing plane I start with a straight arm to the top of my backswing and right when my ball becomes just behind me I bend my arm but I do it for a reason so when I get to my release I snap my wrist and straighten my arm to create more revs
