Bowling Associations-your thoughts...

I'm interested in everyone's take on the various bowling associations, besides the PBA, that may be out there and if they are worth joining, especially for someone brand new to the sport.

The United States Bowling Congress is the governing body for the sport/game of bowling in the U.S. Even unsanctioned leagues tend to use rules and bylaws based on those of the USBC. Anyone interested in competing in tournaments should become a USBC member and join a sanctioned league in order to establish an average that would be recognized anywhere in the country.
