You are lucky to have that choice. It's hard to even find a trio league here. I would like fewer numbers on the team, but we deal with the cards that are available...4 and 5 person teams.
Having bowled on sanctioned leagues now for 3 years, I have discovered that 2 person leagues are my favorite for many reasons!
1. I go to bowl to Bowl! Not a big social thing! Like when I go to the gym for a work out! (yes many do enjoy the social but not Iceman)
If I want a social thing, I get on bowlingboard.com.... LOL
2. I don't have to wait on a bunch of smokers/drinkers out side smoking or drinking in the bar watching a game or something ( sure some might drink and smoke on two person teams, but its much easier to control when less doing the foul deeds.
3. The oil does not get jacked up as much when bowing two person teams, and if your real lucky the opposing team are both left handed.
4. I get home at a respectable time,,,,,
5. Don't get stiff, and tired waiting on people doing number 1, and 2,,,, (no I am not talking about bathroom trips, but numbers mention above) (
6. Never have the problem with too many bowling balls on the racks!!
7. Higher Scores do to less adjustments due to number 3 above.
Just a few of the reasons I think I might be dropping my 5 or 4 person teams this summer and next fall.

I agree for the primary reason of the pace. Doubles or Trios both work very well in terms of the pace of play to keep my old body from getting stiff. Even in trios though, I often stiffen during the extended tenth frame. Oh, to be young again!
I dunno....I like team leagues. There aren't any 5 man leagues around here only 3 and 4, but I could see how 5 might be a bit much. Doubles for me isn't even a league format....it's for tournaments only.

I do a 5 and a 3. I like them both for different reasons. 5 does take a really long time though, my biggest issues with that league is the time between frames and the oil movement. On the flip side it's nice to do the social thing - I use it as a wind-down after work in the middle of the week.
I enjoy 5 person leagues. For the league I am in on Tuesdays it is more competitive, which I do like. I have been in a Trio league and that was competitive one as well which I liked as it didn't mean I was at the center for more than 2 hours total. The Trio league started at 830 so I was home usually by 11.

There are some humans I enjoy bowing with, but not many! Remember I am only half human,,, ICEMAN! I love to bowl, I fricken LOVE THE SPORT! Most People are what ruin my day! There are some I enjoy being around, maybe a half dozen or so.
I would enjoy bowing even more if I went up against Robots! Robots that don't need smoke breaks, or a shot of whiskey, or half gallon of beer, off talking to other bowlers several lanes down! NOW I KNOW not all will agree with me,,, but like I have told my wife many times, I would have made a GREAT MOUTAIN man,,, as long as I had a bowling alley up there with me in the mountains while prospecting for gold/silver,,, Iceman is a loner!!
Bowing is a necessity, people not!
OK.... I deal with it the best I can, but just was curious how many feel like me!
Or am I as unique as my wife says???
When I am in my car driving same thing!! I don't know how many times I have said,,,, YOU KNOW I HATE PEOPLE!! They all drive like they are on a GMO, Tony the Tiger Sugar coated Corn Flakes Purple haze consciousness level!
Yes,,, Iceman likes Two person Leagues! 5 person leagues defrost me,,,,,,,,, Iceman
Don't walk on Thin Ice!
Yes one of the great things about Missouri,,, we got em!! I will be starting up my first one this coming Monday! Great league I bowled on last year, with my wife. Its a male female lague, and sanctioned! As far a people go, not a bad bunch at all! The other two person leage is a 4 game leage for the price of 3games. Looking forward to that one too! You have heard the saying:
The Fewer The Merrier! LOL
I think that's how that saying goes... ICE
Don't walk on Thin Ice!
Not sure of your age Rob, but getting stiff, is not one of Icemans problems, it's a way of life! I am stiff most the time!! ( it doesn't bother my wife at all!!(![]()
But to be young again,,,, yes I must agree,,,, I would not have waited so long to get into the sport of bowling,,, 63 was late!!!

Iceman I would rather bowl on a doubles league also but
it is hard to get a doubles league going around here now
days as most around here want to bowl on a 4 person
handicapped league.
I just wish we could get another singles and doubles scratch
league going again like we had back in the late 80's up to the
mid 90's. I loved bowling on them but nobody around here wants
to bowl scratch leagues anymore it seems.
My scratch doubles partner Joe and I still hold as of this day
the center and local association high scratch doubles game
and scratch series from back in 1994 with a scratch doubles
game of 590 and a scratch doubles series of 1629.
