Default Found this late 70s ball in my familyroom closet.......

Would you believe my Columbia 300 yellow dot ball that I used in the '78 and '79 season and then the '80 and 81 season. From what I remember it was scarlet in color kind of looking like a pearl ball. The serial number is 8N54258. These balls were polyester balls. The color of the dot on the Columbia balls indicated the softness of the surface. The softer the surface the easier it was made to hook to the pocket. I didn't even think that I still had this ball.

The balls were known as bleeders. Something about the mixture of the resin in the ball over time would bleed to the surface. This happened to my ball because it looks like a very dark scarlet or black. I was wondering if this can be restored back to the original color of the nice scarlet pearl. This was my very first fingertip ball. Back then I didn't know much about a correct release. I was probably one of those folks that thought that to hook the ball you had to come up the side with some force.

It is nice to see this ball again. Some good memories are tied into this ball. I was all of 31 years old when I got this ball. How sad is that. Now if I could only get it back to the color it was.

The yellow dot was "the ball" for a while back in the day.

When I started bowling the Columbia yellow dot was my first ball. It may have been the best ball available at the time. Someone should post a picture of the ball.

Maybe I can post a picture of it if I can get it brought back to it's original scarlet color.

My friend that got me into bowling had a Yellow Dot. You're right! It was a pretty pearl red. I had an AMF plastic ball at the time; he said his (Yellow Dot) was urethane, and not plastic. My next ball was an AMF S3D Classic -- soft rubber. His Columbia had a better hook than mine, so I don't think it was plastic.

I looked up the descritpion of the Columbia 300 yellow dot on Google and it said the balls were polyester. What made one hook more then the other was the different softness of the balls. The yellow dots were softer then the other color dots.

I highly doubt you could restore to original color. The material itself has changed.
