Trust me.... same thing with "UConn pride" in CT. During basketball season (at least here in Central CT) the lead stories on all the news are how the teams did in whatever game they had that day, almost no matter what else happened that day.

It kind of annoys me. At least Red Sox/Yankees are pro teams.

It's just sad. Because in "real" states...they have pro teams the whole state can get behind. But in little podunk states...they got nothin...so they have to cheer for pro teams from nearby states or their university...even though most of them could never get into that university.

Being from Michigan, I've seen it first hand. You wouldn't BELIEVE the amount of inner city folks with "Go Blue" apparel on. Yet I can tell you from experience...getting into the University of Michigan Ann Arbor is NOT easy. I "probably" could have gotten in...but didn't want to (because the fees were more than double any other state university). So the "wall-mart crowd" walking around in GO BLUE shirts...they couldn't even get a job there in janitorial services...yet they act like they're alumini.

I know it goes on everywhere...I know...Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina...even out in Cali you'll see UCLA and USC stickers on cars where you're about 99.7% sure the person never stepped foot on a UCLA or USC campus...but man...as horrible as Michigan and Detroit actually is....they at least have 4 major sports teams that the State can root for. And Ohio has SIX!! Yet for some reason...with SIX pro sports teams...probably 4th behind Cali, Texas, and Pennsylvania...more than half their hillbilly population cheers for a university they never attended. It's silly.
