Angry Sometimes you just can't win, aka life just gave me another shot to the gut (RANT)

WARNING this is a rant thread which will most likely provide you with no value personally, if you're not into these things please skip it as I know hearing somebody complain about life sucks as we all have problems - I just really really need to get some stuff off my chest.

So, I moved to San Diego in Jan 2013 as it has been a dream location for me since I graduated college, an old boss who lives here unexpectedly offered me a contract position as a consultant for a company I used to work for back on the east coast, only for their San Diego offices which allowed me to move out here.

Company was doing crappy, and I knew I had until the end of the year (contract end) to find a new job, well the contract was abruptly terminated early in October. Fortunately I found a job, with another company that was awarded a massive government contract here in downtown San Diego, ONE DAY after I started work a competing contracting company filed a protest (which you can do within 10 days after an award is made, usually companies don't bring on new employees until after this period, they conveniently didn't tell me that they failed to wait the 10 days as I turned down another job in favor of this one). Since then, I've struggled to find any work that didn't require me taking a 50-75% pay cut.

Knowing this was a possibility, I did have some savings set aside for a rainy day, or rainy 7 months as it turned out. Well, 7 months later the contract goes through the process again and re-awarded to us again, and I am given written confirmation that we can start work, as I was just about to move back to the east coast - my apartment lease had ended and I had a moving company, etc set up.

I call the senior director and she provides me confirmation, a new offer sheet and the paperwork so I can get my apartment company to allow me to sign a new 13 month lease, and with that I headed to New Orleans for my brother's bachelor party.

Well, this Monday was supposed to be my start day, after NOBODY from the company had the professional courtesy to even call me, after numerous calls the senior director finally calls me back and simply tells me "The government decided to move on, sorry we have no work for you"....Remember they sent me CONFIRMATION that we were moving ahead (somebody is lying through their teeth here)

Well, I've now spent 7 months and about $40k of my own money (much of it in medical expenses as individual insurance plans have MASSIVE deductibles and I've paid a fortune due to a condition I suffer from) in an effort to represent this stupid company out here, the kicker is I was all set to move back home and stop the financial bleeding, and they talked me into staying.

Now I'm stuck in a new lease and they aren't even professional enough to send me any more explanation/correspondence, or contact info for the prime on the contract so that I can pursue possible work with that company out here.

Obviously I'm seeking legal counsel back home, which is where they are based, the only good thing about growing up in Washington DC is that 75% of my friends and several family members are highly regarded attorneys and connected with some very powerful people so if nothing else I plan to tie them up in litigation and cost them as much money as I can, if not recover some of my money from their miscommunications and intentional misleadings and/or outright lies.

Guess I'm just venting, unfortunately my cat is sick of me yelling and screaming about it and I don't blame her

CLIFF NOTES: Zdawg gets screwed over and over again, wastes about 2/3 of his personal savings, unless a miracle happens will be moving back to DC, and Aslan will have to come up with new centers for him to bowl at in July

Poop...I'd like to say this all happened for a reason, which I want to believe, and would like you to believe - but that's not what you want to hear. So...I'll just say, life's a ***** and then we die - better? Oh well, I tried.

Keep you head high and your spirits will follow. Here's wishing you the best from here forward. Stay positive - it does help.

Oh...and no kicking the cat! Go cuddle instead!

Nope would never dream of doing that, she's my one constant companion in all this mess, and while she doesn't quite understand it all she still offers her support

Man I hate to hear that kind of stuff it brings back bad memories for me. I have lost darn near everything twice in the last twenty years. The first time due to some financial mistakes and bad luck that was my fault. The second time from a situation involving government stuff close to what your describing. The best thing I can tell you is keep following your dreams for as long as you can. I hope you make it if you do I will be happy for you. If you don't take a very little bit of time lick your wounds and come back stronger for round 2. It's rough I've been there still putting mine back together but keeping working at it and I believe you truly can achieve anything.

Thanks Amyers, I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I'm still swinging for the fences hoping something comes through at the last minute - but yeah, if I do have to move back east it will give me time to reflect, lick my wounds, make some money, and set up my next plan of attack. I guess if everything came without challenges life would be easy and somewhat boring. Plus I've been told that these struggles build character so I maybe I'll gain something out of it

    I feel partially responsible.

After coming in 2nd in the 1st Annual Etc… Tournament…perhaps your dreams of your true calling; "professional bowler" were severely dashed…which led you to stay in your current field. Sorry bout that!!

Yeah man…California has a lot of military and aerospace stuff…but the downside of those industries is they can be cloud 9 one minute and then collapse. Even our company lost some money last year when the Congress decided to shut down the government then freeze spending during the sequester. All the sudden the Navy couldn't buy our flooring product anymore.

As "The Dude" would say, "Thats a bummer man. It's a bummer."
