Andy varipapa was a hell of a tournament bowler and a usbc hall of famer. He accomplished what some say is one of the greatest feats in sports history also. In 1947 & 1948 in won the all star (later changed to us open) at the ages of 56 & 57. Back then that tournament was 100 games contested over 3 days i think. Also, i'm sure everyone has heard the term varipapa 300 which is 12 consecutive strikes any time during your competition. For fun he always kept track of those 300's in addition to his regular 300's. He was an early star in our sport.

That's crazy.....almost doesn't even seem possible to get the ball to hook twice like that :/

I don't think a newer ball would do those things. You'd need old-school rubber.

May both be correct. I have only ever heard it called a Varipapa.

Some terms are different depending on region. Just like what I call the Lily(5-7-10 split) is also called a sour apple in some places.
