As for decent condition wood, thats all there was during the majority of my bowling.

I shot my 1st 300 on wood, and my 791 series.

My recent 837 was on synthetic, with a massive wall of guiding oil.

You did see the wall of guiding oil in Vegas.

Mudpuppy, and Rob used it quite often, pulling the ball and it just stopped hooking at the oil line.

Rob tended to give the ball a little room early, but the ball would hook back to the oil line, then set in the pocket.

It may be that the wall of oil has always been there for your whole bowling experience, so you don't recognize it.

Real men bowl on a condition where if you miss your target (at 15 feet) by 1 board, you miss the pocket by 4 boards.

Wall babies (on the wall of guiding oil) can miss by 5 boards and still hit the pocket.

It's quite possible that the 6 lane center by using mops to apply oil didn't create the wall of oil, but it's highly likely they do when using a modern machine.

Back in the days before synthetic, there wasn't reactive resin balls. So if you wanted your ball to hit harder than a marshmallow, you had to learn how to roll it. Lane friction alone didn't make the ball roll like today's balls.

It was easy to throw too much revs, and the ball wouldn't hook at all. You see this today with house balls that some people try to spin.

You could throw the ball hard, with very little (if any) hook, but your angle of entry was weak.

If you slowed the ball down, you could improve the angle of entry, but the slow speed meant the ball hit with much less energy.

Bowling with plastic balls was a balancing act.

Some of us put in the time to optimize that balance and we outscored the masses.

Then came along reactive resin, and the balancing act was severely disrupted.

You couldn't over rev the ball and have it not hook, which mean as long as your revs were in line with your speed, you could increase both and the results kept improving.

The masses however couldn't control that much hooking ability so the bowling centers put more oil in the middle of the lane to help guide the ball to the pocket.

Back in the day it wasn't about what score you shot, it was about did you beat your opponent.

Now it seems people are more happy averaging 240 in a tourney and finishing 5th, compared to averaging 205 and winning.

Tough lane conditions test all parts of your game.

Easy conditions test your ability to play the wall the way the wall wants to be played.
Have to say it. It's rare but I agree with you Mike.

After the beating I suffered in Vegas; I've put my high profile bowling career on hold as I learn to actually bowl. Besides, currently all eyes are on the Virtual Bowling Tournament of Champions...the tournament you were too afraid to join.

After the VBT, I have to decide if I'm gonna try out for Team USA. Then I got the BVL Tournament shortly thereafter. Hopefully Santa brings my wife a job so I can afford to divorce her. And once that goes final, I plan to win either the Powerball or Mega Millions lottery so I can afford my Malibu mansion. So, LOTS on my plate with the year coming to an end...can't even think about going on some half-arse expedition to Missouri. Especially after reading that they recently found a house in Missouri that was infested with 6000 brown recluse spiders. No thank you. If I'm gonna drive to hillbilly land...I'll just go bowl against Amyers in West Virginia...better scenary out there and I won't have to worry about being caught up in the race riots.

Besides, I turn the big 4 0 in a couple weeks so my remaining time on this ***thole of a planet is soon coming to an end. Then you'll have to put your ear to the ground and if ya hear some rumbling...thats me and the Devil bowling!

Not afraid of Virtual bowling, I just prefer the REAL THING! I like the sweet smell of sweat from my victims... Virtual is too sterile ... and can be make-believe since no one knows for sure, if people are taking mulligans!! NOT MY THING!!
By the way I EAT brown recluse spiders,,,, some times I put then in my blinder with a couple eggs, and some protein powder.

Well since this thread is Aslan vs Michael! And your quitting,,,

The END!! It was fun while it lasted!

Bowl1824,,,, can you stop this thread? If so, engage, make it so!!

I will start another one as I get closer to: " THE REAL MEN Aren't AFFRAID OF SPIDERS, AND BOWL WOOD CONTEST", in PLATTSBURG Missouri 2014 some time this next spring/summer

First time I came on here in a long time and no new posts in here? I was

So I'm posting in here to keep it alive and kicking. The spiders, blood, sweat, 5 shots of jack, bikers, surfers, bowling of course and immortal fame can never be forgotten.

I think even MWhite had a good time. He might fool you with his comments and his plastic ball remarks but I'd bet dollars to donuts if we scheduled a vegas tourney next week he would be the first one there.

KC - oh KC. When art thou? I need more epic tourney time. Plattsburg sounds incredible. I'm going to throw this out there - second weekend in June 2015.

second week in June sounds good to me,,, actually ANY TIME, ANY DAY,,, ANY Month! I have this feeling it might be a new group of players. Mike White got beat so bad by Rob, and his superior knowledge, that I doubt he will want any more duels with The Beast, Rob! Not even sure Rob, and spider man Aslan, will make the trip.

But I DO KNOW A BUNCH of guys that are on this site,,, ( The Dude, JASON), (Biker Gene and Mary his woman), Pat The Beast Henderson, at 60 years old a local friend and bowling partner, that is a Hall of famer, and who ever else wants the GLORY!

I will have trophies,,, and I am picking up the bowling alley for that event!

Anyone wanting to lay claim to the: ( Real Men bowl with Spiders on Wood tournament), the last wood lanes in the whole metro Kansas city Kansas, Missouri area, Start signing up!

We will have 6 lanes, and the whole house to ourselves! It will be a private party! Six bowlers so far! That's a lane a piece! LOL

Let me know ASAP,,, so I can start making plans! We can pick a day that works for the most of you,, that probably being a weekend, like Saturday.

sign up below: As long as I know by spring the numbers, I can get things lined out!

    JUNE 13th 2015

I thinking that we should start a new thread for this event, since I already beat Aslan, and he probably won't make the trip, just to get beat again!

This thread should be closed,,, I really doubt Mike, Rob, and Kitty Cat will put forth the effort Iceman did to make it easy for them!

The name of this thread is Aslan vs Iceman...

The new one should be called: ( Real Men Bowl on Wood, World Championship Open) Of course Scratch!! NO sandbaggers allowed! Teams, and individual bowling

I know in my minds eye this thread will never die! Meeting all of you, and riding my bike out with my wife, pulling the trailer we built with all our gear,,,, IT WAS THE BEST BIRTHDAY I HAVE EVER HAD!!!

The sign that Aslan had his friend draw,, (which is in my man room and will be framed in the near future), was GREAT! The cake was ,,, just,,, too much,,, I kid Aslan, but I love him like a brother I wished I had!!

meeting all of you, and the GREAT TIME we had interacting, and bowling! Well it just don't get any better then that! I wished we all lived a hell of a lot closer, and could bowl together more often.

But its time to move on... and put this thread to REST! For now!

Will there be another Vegas Sin City synthetic lanes tournament again?????? I know I am always game to jump on the Goldwing and hook up the trailer and RIDE!!
